Andrewkb Neutral Newbie April 21, 2003 Share April 21, 2003 Was just curious with this thought.... I was reading a magazine the other day, and they tested the effectiveness of various intercooler by doing a CRUDE experiment. They place a hair dryer at the inlet and switch to full blast and put a thermometer probe each at the inlet and the outlet. A fan blows across the intercooler. By doing that, the temperature dropped from 60 to 70degreeC down to a mere 20+ degreeC ! Based on the above, am thinking if it is possible to route air inlet to an intercooler before going into the intake manifold on a NA car ? ↡ Advertisement
Selespeed156 Neutral Newbie April 21, 2003 Share April 21, 2003 Hi, The air intake for NA engines are "cool" enough, the reason to have intercooler for SC or TC engine is because when air is being compressed in these applications, the air temperature is very high when it leaves the TC/SC outlet. Air flowing through the intercooler would be quite restricted (pipings, intercooler air-duct), without the added pressure from the SC or TC, i would think it would reduce the performance of your engine than any good. Besides, the temperature of the environment in Singapore is not low enough to cool your air (in the intercooler) by much. just my 2 cts worth... Lester Neutral Newbie April 21, 2003 Share April 21, 2003 Scrap the idea. it's good for lab results only. When it is under the hood, the sir leaving the intercooler most probably is 60 to 70 degree Celsius! Definitely can't be 20 degree Celsius. Ironheart Neutral Newbie April 25, 2003 Share April 25, 2003 Can explained a little more about the ATF cooler? got such item in market? wanna let my autogear box live longer and are there any good addictives for ATF gear box?
Cool Neutral Newbie April 25, 2003 Share April 25, 2003 Stand Car cooling of the ATF is shared with the Radiator. With a seperate ATF Cooler, you can cool down the ATF faster and in longer term, it won't wear out the seals. Singapore weather damm hot.. and there is no "Drugs" to ATF Gear box.
