Turbocharged
(edited)

If I had to guess I would say the conti car makers (Merc, BMW, VW) are more impacted by the Euro emission laws which their home company and sales base and had to evolve quickly to adapt, Japanese makers on the other hand have a majority market in US where the norm is have big engines so have been less pressured to change. This is a guess could be wrong.

In fact I recall a statement where the Bmw (some head) said Bmw will not have force induction cars going forth, this was during the E9X series i.e E92 M3 with the 4.4 Litre engine, guess he was wrong lol

I read through the threads, still cannot get why Japanese automakers don't invest enough to turbo engine, since decades ago they already had the mature technology, and even if BMW, Merc etc conti makers started up lag but they caught up recently,

now you want to buy a NA conti car is rare in market

Thats the BYD e6, and i've also sat in one numerous times, and yes they are impressive..

i've actually seen one driven here in SG, bearing the RD plate..

I also sat in a BYD taxi in Shenzhen. I was actually very impress. The pick was very strong without even trying hard by the driver and it was very very quiet.
Recently the same electric car was used as a premium school bus locally.

japanese maker is too proud of their "efficiency" NA engine

for jdm market i can understand but for world market

i could not understand why they die die stick with their small cc NA engine family car

seriously, conti 1.2L 1.4L 1.6L and 2.0L will eat japanese car from small hatch to sedan to coupe to mpv to crossover to suv ...

anyway, honda/toyota/nissan is making turbo family car liao ... they will close the gap

past 10 years Japanese automakers went astray, they only foresee oil price still is going up in trend, but they didn't estimate oil cannot be exhausted in near future, so IC engine still is the majority in automotive industry, and Hybrid and electric cars either technology or price still can not be accepted by consumers in near future, now Japanese makers already lost Europe/China market, perspective soon it will lose Asian, American market too if they don't change their strategy

From enthusiast point, its difficult to replace wat that E92 M3 with its V8 can deliver. It's so intoxicating, a very good balance rwd chassis, steering and soulful engine, esp when it roars.....

Japanese love Natural Aspirated engines for many reasons, one of the main reason is cost.

Volkswagen cars have an image problem, they think they are the commoner's car but consumers see

Volkswagen as a luxury car. Part of the blame is due to Volkswagen use of "premium" technology that makes their cars more expensive than Japanese car.

This is evident in the U.S. Market where Volkswagen is struggling.

since TC so many advantage compare to NA, curious why Japanese makes gave up TC and still stick on outdated NA?

don't tell me it's due to Japanese technology cannot catch conti makes, decades ago Japanese makes already easily made 2.0L TC, with 320bhp/400Nm +6 speed (M) + AWD, http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_specs.php?CarCode=10318

nowadays still few conti makes can achieve this performance parameters at 2.0 TC, even Volvo latest 2.0 T6 also only achieves 316bhp/400Nm

not just US market la ... i also will not consider VW

if want cheap and good (reliable) ... there is toyota/honda/nissan

if want brand whore ... there is bmw/merc/audi

VW is in what position? bread and butter or luxury segment? neither here nor there

Simplicity and reliability and costs.... Don't forget most consumers in the rest of the world just want cars that are reliable, simple to maintain and repair.... And if possible cheap too.

Japanese carmaker is very successful with hybrid car in the states which is their major market. That's why they nvr bother with turbocharging, which is an European thingy. Until recently.

Yes they are already in Singapore. I saw quite a few times. They are slowly penetrating to Singapore market.

In actual fact they are doing pretty well in Europe.

Currently working with A* as well.

Their K9 bus is now in US and some European countries.
