13177 Hypersonic November 22, 2018 Share November 22, 2018 As a security guard, I have heard my share of "true" creepy stories from my colleagues. Over the years, I have learned to take those stories with a heavy pinch of salt. Because a lot of security guards perform 24-hr shifts and therefore they suffer from a chronic lack of sleep. And that can actually someone to experience hallucinations. So sometimes, when one of my fellow guards tell me they saw something or heard something at our workplace, I would always ask them one question. "Are you working 24-hr shifts?" When you are tired and stress and not enough sleep, easily to get hallucinations de. Anything that might seems normal would all become ghostly. ↡ Advertisement
Teckmeister 1st Gear November 22, 2018 Share November 22, 2018 Got stories to share? Sure! But I have mundane explanations for almost all creepy scenarios. For example, there was this one time when I had to pick up a 24-hr shift due to lack of manpower. That was at a small and old shopping centre. And during one of my clocking rounds in the building, all of a sudden, I started to hear the sound of footsteps around me. Even though I was the only person on that floor. I could also hear the sounds of ... a busy marketplace? Like there were a lot of people around me, moving about and chatting with each other. Even though the time was after midnight in a closed shopping centre. But I didn't freak out then because my body was suffering from lack of sleep and therefore on auto-pilot mode. I just moved sleepily through my clocking route without thinking or feeling anything. But after my shift ended, the memory of that particular clocking round stayed with me. Was that a supernatural event? I don't think so. Like I said, I was already suffering from lack of sleep at that time. So it's normal for my mind to misinterpret certain sounds, like the sound of my footsteps for example, to be something else entirely. I have also worked with a colleague who had the habit of speaking to "invisible people". Sometimes, during the night shifts we worked together, he would say "good evening" or smile at empty air. So did he see something the rest of us couldn't? Maybe. But then he's also a 24-hr guard. Meaning, he had to work several 24-hr shifts in a row. That's very taxing on a person's health, both physically and mentally. So he could have been experiencing hallucinations, meaning whatever he saw was all in his own head. But I do have some stories that lean more towards the supernatural than the mundane. I put them together for a Halloween blog post: https://guardsgonewild.wordpress.com/2018/10/30/3-halloween-mysteries/ ↡ Advertisement
