Jasonllh Neutral Newbie February 22, 2007 Share February 22, 2007 now that i have the this pda and using it, i would say that it is reasonably precise. the gps chip works well except that cold starting the device (receiving signals and coorinating where you are) takes longer than those dedicated machines. once it locks in, it works the same as a dedicated gps receiver. maps and the software plays a big part in precision and directions....e.g routing function. the routing (thru dispay interface and voice enabled)may lead you to your location via a longer route depending on the map precision and routing capability. in the end you will still get there. trade offs???.....phone baking on your dashboard while you drive??? think it is only the cold startup timing. my battery still full strength after using it from my home to work place, able to receive calls halfway, being informed to "pls slow down" or "speed camera ahead 300m"....all this are quite fun to have just get a reasonably fast ppc.....mine's 400 mhz
Jasonllh Neutral Newbie February 22, 2007 Share February 22, 2007 yup....flashed it.....easy as ABC.....march shipments for dopod dun need to flash...all done up with gps operational. that's wat i heard.

Chinmeng Neutral Newbie February 22, 2007 Share February 22, 2007 D810 Qualcom's GPS chipset is not as sensitive as compared to SiRF III chipset. Check out the Market place thread in ppcsg.com and you can get brand new at around $1.1K Yes all D810 comes with GPS built-in but you need to d/l the latest GPS enabled rom from Dopodasia site to get it work
Mavvy Clutched February 22, 2007 Share February 22, 2007 GPS. Now you can get 100 something to 200... Mine ... $220 Active Antenna. $55 Software/Maps... FOC.
Carlover76 Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 I have a set of IPAQ 5770 for sale, 2 months old with some scratches on the side of the set. Anyone interested, please PM me, thanks.
Lengendcf 1st Gear February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 hi, just be careful if you are using in the car. i have heard some saying that the car film sometimes block out the gps signals (need to verify). then again my car film didn't.....could mean crappy quality me (gps newbie) using dopod d810 with mapking malsing gps system.....cheap and performance is good(no lag, real-time). signals won't be as strong as those dedicated ones but i do get cold startup timing at about 1 to 2 mins depending on where you are. if yr last coordinates is the same as wen u restarted the gps system, detection is below 1 min. just dun bother trying to get a signal in your hse ( as many users have tried it)...it doesn't work like this. this all in one device is suited for those who are occasionally lost and need some orientation, definitely not hardcore. mine's a phone, pda, gaming machine, portable movie viewer, camera, gps ...... but hor, if one spoilt all spoilt..... Yes, some solar film like VKool will affect the signals..If not, why they need to cut a hole at the erp unit..The erp gate so near, still need to cut, just imagine how far the satelites is... So sometimes, ex, does not means everything also good..
Mavvy Clutched February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 (edited) Get this.. then.. NO NEED to cut hole on your solar film. http://www.holux.com/product/search.htm?fi...&level=grandson Edited February 28, 2007 by Mavvy
Count_dukulangsat Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 (edited) Helo! I just got my d810 two days ago, flashed the ROM and got the GPS running. I initially used Map King but switched to Garmin Que and it routes beautifully. Needed to install GPSGate to get it working with Garmin. Typically before coming out from my office carpark, I turn on the phone and set my destination. After driving out it takes a few mins to get a signal and my phone starts telling me where to go! It's all in one for me as well- works as a phone, enables me to surf from anywhere via wifi or 3G, plays Chess, Scrabbble. I have VPN and able to terminal to my PC in the office, check email, troubleshoot issues...no need to carry my notebook around Edited February 28, 2007 by Count_dukulangsat
Jackryan888 Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 Have been thinking seriously about D810 as well but can i check if you know what GPS chip it is using? Is it a SiRF III type? (20 channels?)

Count_dukulangsat Neutral Newbie March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 On GPSGate the chip found was 'GPD1'. The GPS recept yesterday evening and today was pretty bad, on and off- I think because of the weather.
Kelpie 2nd Gear March 1, 2007 Share March 1, 2007 But Singapore is so small and yet its weather condition can affect the performance of a GPS? Regards, ↡ Advertisement
