Familymanz 3rd Gear February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 aiyo... ur tales on Jenny brought over to car talk..... 1) u sure you can FUllY shut off the car without the ikey? Do u know the sensor will beep if something is not in sequence? 2) Do you know tat in the event that the ikey is not in the vehicle for extended time (abt 45mins), the engine will shut down by itself? 3) U go try duplicate a "master" key & see if you can start the car engine with tat? ↡ Advertisement

Kxbc Turbocharged February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 Let's say I start the engine and then throw the key outside. will the engine still run even when it cannot sense the presence of the key in the car? I am also a Latio owner but never get to explore this option.
Kxbc Turbocharged February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 I was told even if you make the master key, it will not work as there is a chip in the physical key which disengages the engine immobiliser before you can start the engine. So unless you can also duplicate the chip, it will not work with an "unauthorised" key.

The beeping sound is just a reminder. 2) NO CAR Manufacturer IN THE WORLD will make their cars Dangerous! Imagine one drove the car to office, and one's wife took over to drive it for shopping. If the key is in the husband pocket, you mean to say the wife will suddenly have a 100km/hr car die by itself after driving for 45mins on the expressway? Do you think its so? Although I never tried it, but I doubt its so dangerous!! 3) The master key is those normal metal keys. If you damage the ignition key slot, I am sure thats how thieves can drive off with just a screwdriver. Again, I have not tried it myself but I have read thats how cars are stolen. I doubt that there is a security chip in the metal key, nissan gave the full metal master key without any 'black moulding' at the holding part. Because my colleague is driving his Latio with his bare bone metal key when he lost his i-key a few months ago! I even question him on the immobaliser features, then he showed me his bare bone metal key. No way there is a chips there for security. Kxbc Turbocharged February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 sure...Kiss29 is rite... u had better trust him You si bei funny. But one thing good about this intelligent key is that you will find it most convenient to open your car door during a super rainy day with your hands full of groceries/small kid/ . No need to fish out key from the pocket. Just stick out 1 little finger and press the car door and voila! door unlocked. But one thing not good is that I tend to forget if I had locked the door as there is no need to physically press the lock/unlock alarm function of the key before you walk off. I always need to double check.
Kiss29 Neutral Newbie February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 "I was told even if you make the master key, it will not work as there is a chip in the physical key which disengages the engine immobiliser before you can start the engine. I am dead sure for the Latio and March master metal key is without the security chips. Even the metal key that is inside the i-key is without any chips!! Maybe cefiro/pressage/Z350 is higher security grade, do correct me.
Kxbc Turbocharged February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 Is your colleague's metal key really bare bone as in no plastic/pvc wrapping at the top part of the key? Maybe the chip is embedded in the plastic/pvc part which will disengage the engine immobiliser? This one I am not sure. Only the Tan Chong guys can comment. Kxbc Turbocharged February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 I am looking at my metal key (the one which can be pushed into the main key unit) as I type and I note that the top part of the key is wrapped in thick plastic/pvc with the plastic/pvs screwed in. Perhaps the chip is there. Maybe I will go try later and see if I take out the physical key from the main unit, whether the door can still be unlocked just using the main unit (w/o key stuck in). Iziz Clutched February 8, 2007 Share February 8, 2007 1) This is MyCarForum, not www.gamblingden.com. We r here to share knowledge =) I may know quite a fair bit more due to the nature of my job but I am not 100% rite too, I am also learning everyday, tks to the forum. The actual owners may know more den me as they r the ones using it everyday. 2) It will not shut down but even in the unlikely event that someone makes off with ur car, he must drive all the way to the destination as he will not be able to start it after he shuts down and this does not make his venture veri worthwhile. 3) The keys given to the owners are PROGRAMMED, so pls dun go and try to duplicate the keys and start the car, I shall not be responsible if the engine immobilises should u decide to try this stunt. The i-key is convenience-driven, not security-driven. It just gives u the convenience of not having the dig for the keys. Any loop-holes it has is similar to the conventional alarm system, if u happen to lose ur alarm, the person who picks it up will also be able to drive ur car away. So it has nothing to do with the i-key rite?
Nothingtodo 1st Gear February 8, 2007 Author Share February 8, 2007 So locking the car from far can be done via the button tingy (pouch holding the bare metal key) like any other alarm controller? So means the car door and engine will sense either 2 bare metal keys (+ 1 key holder with buttons) given?

I am also a Latio owner but never get to explore this option. yes the engine will still run as that is a safety feature. it just that the ignition will not activate again should u switch off the engine after that. my fren was fetching his wife in his L exus and he let his wife take over after dropping him off. he only realised that the key was still in his pocket afterwards. his wife was still able to drive the car and go home to get the spare key i think. just make sure u never lose smart key of a lexus. A lexus key if lost will cost $1200 to replace as they need to order it from Japan Edited February 8, 2007 by Azarael ↡ Advertisement
