Car flooded! how to get rid of the damp stale smell?

Hi a friend of mine has his car flooded by heavy downpour in an open carpark.

The carpet was filled with water. Fortunately that is about it, no further damage to the critical parts of the car. However, after clearing all the water and drying, the underlying layer of insulation material is still wet tho the top carpet seems dry. As a result the car will have a stale smell without verntilation and after the windows are closed for awhile.

Using anti-odour spray is useless. Using humidifier is also not effective.

Tried blowing and steaming in gromming center, helps a little but still cannot dry.

anybody faced the same predicament and has found the best solution?

was told by workshop guys that the insulation has be wash with some chemicals and sun it. Probably take weeks to be able to get rid of the smell ( the timing depends on friendly weather , if everyday sunny then may be 1-2 weeks ).

another way is to change the insulation to a new set.

both methods above are very inconvenience and cannot use the car. [:(]

hopefully someone here can provide a better solution.

I can't think of a better way than that too...

Cheap way is to sun the car for extended periods with windows fully open...

Expensive way is to change whatever has been damaged or takes too long to dry...

BTW, as a temp resort.. maybe try charcoal? Drive with the windows down to help clear the air too...

send it to Auto-Glym, where they will put the car into the oven, once it's over, it smells like a brand new car. cheers!

had this experience in the company car too...he only has 2 options.

1) To dry the interior by winding the windows slightly down and let it bake under the sun...that is if the car is always out in the open...but make sure the windows are close when raining or else have to start all over..

During the night, you can buy those car charcol that are available from liang court supermarket, place a few and they will remove the smell.

This process has to be done about 3 days as far as we had experienced.

2) To send to workshop to remove all the affected insulations.

As far as I was advice, option 2 is a quick and better way as it does ensure that a detailed inspection can be doon to check for any mold and rust that may hadve accumulated.

Cheers.

does Auto-Glym has an oven? I tot most of them are just grommers.

do u know whic auto-glym and where is it and how much $$$?

my friend send to a groomer, they use blower and steamer. must pull out the carpet

otherwise no use, cos the carpet has a layer of wax between the top layer and the insulation material. blowing on the surface is difficult to get the air to evaporate.

the best solution would be to strip everything and dry it. Best if you can leave the car with the groomers for a few weeks.

side track, can share where your friend park the car until the stupid car park can flood? Makes you wonder.. is it a good idea to have parking under your blk/appt block or settle for MSCP where you can park higher up.
