Headshok 1st Gear January 30, 2007 Share January 30, 2007 the number of subs u can hook up to a monoblk depends on the lowest impedence the amp can take and the impedence of ur sub. for example, if ur monoblk is 600 watts @ 2ohms, 400 watts @ 2ohms, then u can hook up 2 300 watt single coil subs (parallel both subs down to get 2 ohms) OR u can just hook up a 1 dual coil (4ohms) sub. if u wanna wack more subs, make sure ur amp has the juice to do so and u calculate the overall impedence of the number of subs. for example, 2 DVC 4 ohms subs u get 1 ohm overall cheers. Jlim Clutched January 30, 2007 Author Share January 30, 2007 Thanks for the fast response! So the math is divide out the W between Amp and Subs when ohms is equal?
Headshok 1st Gear January 30, 2007 Share January 30, 2007 okok. when judging power, always use the RMS values. a lot of brands like to use MAX rating which is bull crap.. always look for the RMS value. to match impedence, go read up on impedence matching. summary, its like that. assumin u have 2 4 ohm subs. so when u series them its 4+4=8ohm. parallel down, its 1/[(1/4 + 1/4)], which is effectively 2 ohms. thats how u work it out. the monoblks will put out more power at lower impedence. but make sure u stick to the recommended impedence (either 1 or 2 ohms). goin below will burn up the amp. so thats it. so, if u got a big amp and u match all the impedence together, u can run a lot of subs, for example, if i have a dual voice coil 6 ohm sub, i parallel it down to get 3 ohms. assuming each sub is 600 watts, i can hook up 12 of the subs together, giving me a resultatn 1 ohm impedence. if i have a 8kw amp, that monoblk will run 12 subs. so, yeah, thats how it works. cheers
Jlim Clutched January 30, 2007 Author Share January 30, 2007 wah wah wah not easy seem like it takes 1 year full-time course to fully understand this. But bottomline is that I learnt - 1 Mono =X= only 1 sub. And I guess it will make more sense to go parallel and not series then. Thanks again for the help, think i'll print it and go research some more Time to zzz. cheers

Mantoroz Neutral Newbie February 19, 2007 Share February 19, 2007 sorry to borrowed this thred.. i'm a newbee in ice.. having problems with my hu runing haywire, sudden increase of volume, not able to tune adjustments..etc. Me having an amp connected with a sub. my neighbour did try disconnect my hu n replace with his as we both have the same model and disconnect the power supply of my amp without disconnecting the battery source. His hu able to operate normally. but when my hu n my amp is reconnected, my hu is able to perform normally n my amp is not powered, no supply. check all wire is connected like before. what can be the possible reason?? Dizzy Tks...
Slidingturtle Neutral Newbie February 19, 2007 Share February 19, 2007 hiya, perhaps you can also let us know the model/brand of your HU? for example, pioneer HU has a function called Automatic Sound Leveliser (ASL) whose function is to automatically vary the volume of to compensate for increase in road noise as your driving speed increases. hope others can provide additional clues.. cheers,
