Hi, i like to find out from the G9 owners where they place their tweeters. I've heard several innovative places to mount the tweeters like what Cool and Koolaba suggested. All very innovative. May i ask where do the rest of u guys mount ur tweeters? Is it via a drill hole in the door? In the air vent? At the kick panels? Any suggestion would be appreciated.....

For optimal mounting of tweeters, it is best to reduce the path legth difference (PLD). In home audio systems, the tweeters, mids, mid bass drivers are placed close to each other to have produce a coherent sound. For me, the placement of tweeters at e kick panel as near to the 6.5" as possible is to replicate this effect, found in home audio systems.

I've tried many positions in my ride before settling down on e kick panels, including A-pillar, edge of dashboard. These locations suffer from poor imaging.

As the passengers in G9 sit higher than most cars, u'll need to play ard w certain locations. Remember, an ideal speaker shd produce all freq from one point.

This is deep...... I suppose the optical mounting position of the tweeters also depend on the height of the person and the space in the car then?

Yup...u can test e optimal tweeter firing location by playing some diagnostic discs such as those from Sheffield labs or chesky records

This is really new to me. I always thought that the tweeters should be placed at ear level, and as close to your ears. As the air in a car is a very enclosed area the acoustics should be very good(providing your car can keep road/engine noise to minimum). As such I on't think you need to worry about sound frequencies coming from all over the place.

I suggest u play a few tracks from Chesky demo, Sheffield labs. These CDs provide the essential diagnostic tools for accuracy n imaging.

Most installers will place e tweeters on the edges of the dashboard out of convenience. If u r really keen, take a look at magazines at Borders featuring competition ICE setups. Those dashboard locations are not exactly e best places for e tweeters

the overall effect that one should be aiming for in when placing front speaker is to create an effect like the singer is singing and the band is playing somewhere in front of u, perhaps like 5 to 10 feet in front of the car, like sitting in the front row of norah jone's concert (wish i was there).

this can be achieved in many ways, the easiest of which is to put the tweeter and mids slightly below ear level and ensure that their distance from the driver is the same however, this is not possible in most cars.

many feel that the idea location of the tweets is in the kick panels close to the mids in the front door. both tweets should be angled upwards, the left tweet should be angled so that it also projects the sound directly into the driver's left year. the right tweet should be angled such that it is projects the sound onto the driver's right ear but NOT directly. this will help to achieve the effect of having both tweets of equi distance to the driver. but this may result in the tweets being overpowering and the mids are both firing sideways into the driver's leg. thus we should also mount the mids in the kick panel, which involves the fabrication of the kick panel speaker enclosure, something that can cost quite a bit of $$$$, but for idea sound, no choice....

another way is to place the tweets on the dashboard at the edge, firing into the windshield, this way the sound gets reflected off the windshield into the drivers ear. as a rule of thumb, the right tweet should fire more directly into the windshield and the left tweet should fire at an angle slightly less than hitting the driver's ear. the mids will stay in the door panel but by using washers and maybe a bit of wacking, angled slightly inwards and upwards towards the driver's ear. this way the tweets being reflected off the windshield will not be hitting too hard on the driver's ear and the mids are firing at an angle towards the driver, so the driver is getting better mids. but lets not forget that the IU hampers the movement of the sound coming from the right tweet.

there are a great many locations, some better than others. the best way is still trial and error and lots of tuning the HU and eq if u have one.

i'm no expert on this subject of speaker placement, left ear deaf one lah, but have spent a fair amount to time messing around with my own setup trying to get some stereo effect with one ear!
