Turbo boosting woes

Yo bros,

I'm actually driving a Colt Plus Turbo (CVT) and just installed Blitz Single Solenoid EBC and sard BOV.

I encountered no problems on the first day of using the EBC. Mechanic at Imperial Concepts did a few test runs and configured 4 suitable settings for me. The next day however I got into some problems.

Just now while driving home at 2am, after switching EBC to setting 4, which is the highest boost, I was still lingering at 0.6 bar even though I was increasing throttle. Stock boost max out at 0.5 bar. Initial first day test runs showed that I could hit 0.9 bar pretty easily.

This evening at about 10pm, I could hit 1.0 bar easily all of a sudden but after several successful attempts at getting that "throw-back" feeling in my seat, boost gauge showed turbo max out at 0.6+ bar.

What could be the problem(s) here?

Need help to solve this... Would appreciate any advice or suggestions...

Thanks lots

Assuming electronics and gauges are working, I will check for boost leaks. Take a look at all your intercooler piping and silicone hose joints. Make sure that they are well fitted and tight.

You might also arrive at your peak boost of 0.9-1.0 bar at midrange RPM and taper off to a lower boost of 0.6 bat at redline when you WOT the car.

I have no idea where the intercooler piping and silicone hose joints are. Kindly enlighten me with pics or descriptions?

What is WOT?

If you're just controlling boost. it's not good as it'll lean out at higher rpms.

Perhaps you've encountered a boost cut or ECU going into safe/limp mode when it detects detonation.

Did you throw any CEL or warning lights?

Just be careful.... there's so many cases of blown engine w/o tuning.

petrol quality may cause ECU to go into limp mode... what petrol u use? try using RON98 or at least Shell or mobil/esso 95

Just found out that a fellow CPT owner hit 1.0 bar with no problems.

Today just tried out my car again and realised how to hit max boost. Apparently I must step about half throttle for rpm to hit above 3000 then boost will increase very fast to hit 1.0 bar.

Thanks everyone for your kind help and suggestions. Really appreciate it. Nice atmosphere here for ppl like me who want to learn more. [thumbsup]

Just a curious question. Is 1 bar considered huge boost? Whats the max boost showing on the gauge? I last owned a Turbo car about 5-6 years ago?? It was a Nissan EXA Turbo. E15ET. Manufactured in 1983. I had a boost gauge that reads up to like 15PSI. Depending how much you press on the accelerator the boost reading can go up to like 15+PSI.

But usually I can obtain that kind of high boost when I have quick acceleration. Not like what you mentioned where you half throttle. If I also half throttle, maybe the boost gauge only shows 5PSI.

Just want to know whats the relation between the PSI and bar measurement readings?

Edit: Oops answered my own question with google. 1 bar = 15PSI.

At McWell, SARD R2D2 universal BOV selling $350 I think. I got it cheaper.

Sound is good. Got one guy jumped up in fright when the BOV farted. I was outside MOS. Hahaha!

Can. Come tonight to Yishun dam at 9.30pm. A few CPT owners coming to "poison" one another. Their mods even more fierce than mine. Contact me at 91eight3seven3zero-two.
