I saw some Malaysian made engine oil like Shell Helix Ultra during my day trip to JB today.

Wanted to buy but my friend said that M'sian made oils are recycled and advised me against buying.

Is this true?

What is recycled engine oil?

They filter the used oil and sell it as new?

But can't see that the oil is not so light golden in colour? - a clear hint that it is recycled?

Re-cycled engine oil is usually sold as hydraulic oil. I doubt MY wil sell re-cycled oil as engine oil as the quality wil b quite low even after they put in additives & modifiers.

Mostly hear stories of China re-cycle oil & sell as who knows what. There were even stories of old engine oil used to cook food & many pple got sick or died cos of this. [angel]

But as some ws in MY r very dishonest [pirate] , just b extra careful when u get your oil from there. If u have the slightest reason to suspect anything, don't use their oil or better still don't get your car serviced there again.

Thought many countries are also selling recycled oil? Australia's Mobil 1 also recycled. I remembered last time it was selling like A$40?? But recycled or not I dont know if its really bad or what. Just know that it also attained the same standard / certification like the ones we buy locally but at doubled/triple the price.

Hmmmm......How did u know that Aust is selling Mobil 1 which is recycled???

How do u see if the engine oil on sale is recycled?

Ya at the back of the bottle. Last time....A$30 gets pretty reasonably good 5L oil. Mobil 1 maybe A$50 max.

But recycled also should be ok I feel. Coz you look at it this way...Aust also got many turbocharged + luxury cars. But they survive also....

But then again, last time I always buy oil from Marlows which now I heard it's called Supercheap. Maybe only Marlows' oil is recycled heehee.

Oh...Even shell helix ultra in Aust was selling like A$50 range last time while over here is S$100. Somemore last time S$1 = A$0.80.

Issit u see the label behind got 3 arrows in a circle? I think that means the container is recycled not the oil. [confused]

I don't think Mobil 1 is re-cycled oil leh.

Neutral Newbie

Think the number inside the 3 arrows refers to how many times the material used to make the plastic container was recycled rather than the content inside.

That logo with number 1 to 7 appears in all plastic bottles leh. No. I remembered it was in words ie "Made from recycled oil" or something.

Last time when I was there, I also participate actively in car forums. But local ones. Still remember it's E15ET yahoo group. So there was some discussion about it. But all the locals said it's ok one. Hope the forum is still alife.

Thanks for the link. I do notice it mentiones that to re-recycle oil to b used as engine oil may cost more then if they used virgin oil. So I wonder if we r getting alot of this re-recycled oil cos our oil seems to cost quite high?

Fxxx. Damn it. I should have bought more of the $30 virgin mobil 1 oil. Can't believe we have been paying $100 for these recycled oil.

Carrelube must be very virgin also. [sly]

Urm.... I never said we r getting re-cycled oil. Only maybe we r cos our prices r quite high.

It cud also mean the dealers have a higher mark-up over here or even our tax is higher.

I think our oil are probably virgin oil. But I think for my car....as long as the recycled oil attained the relevant certifications, then it should be safe.

Otherwise the certifications are all how-siao one liao.
