Bitumen sheets?? I thought they are quite toxic! [sweatdrop]

Got this from Wikipedia:

Bitumen is the residual (bottom) fraction obtained by fractional distillation of crude oil. It is the heaviest fraction and the one with the highest boiling point.

In British English, the word 'asphalt' refers to a mixture of mineral aggregate and bitumen (or tarmac in common parlance). The word 'tar' refers to the black viscous material obtained from the destructive distillation of coal and is chemically distinct from bitumen. In American English, bitumen is referred to as 'asphalt' or 'asphalt cement' in engineering jargon. In Australian English, bitumen is sometimes used as the generic term for road surfaces.

Most bitumens contain sulphur and several heavy metals such as nickel, vanadium, lead, chromium, mercury and also arsenic, selenium and other toxic elements.

I'm also looking for Cable Hunter sheets. Are the Bitumen sheets heavy? I don't want to add more weight to my car as I've already done 1 layer of SP on 4 doors.

Hmm...maybe we can share the 5m x 1m sheets? You take 2m, I take 3m [thumbsup]

Thanks, I just bought 2.5m from Mav at $60. On 2nd thoughts, not sure if it's enough as he suggested that I do double layer over my existing SP. May get another 2.5m from him this Sat. BTW, he has run out of readily cut stock and only has time to cut them into 2.5/5m bundles this Saturday morning.

You need to open the door panel to diy SP.

It is normally held together with screws, bolts, clips.

You also have to disconnect door hooks and electrical connections.

It's quite a bit of work to remove the door panel the first time, but after that experience you can work faster. [laugh]

Also you might encounter broken plastic clips and need to get replacement.
