Riceracer Clutched January 8, 2007 Share January 8, 2007 We have already been killing one another with the COE bidding frenzy in the early days. Remember the time when the COE for a 1.6l car costs $100k? Using monetary disincentives as a means of regulation has been the norm since independence . Why else have we become a "fine" city? COE for 1.6L had never reached 100k, not even close. I think around 70k only. 100k was >2000cc and open cat. ↡ Advertisement
Quantum 5th Gear January 8, 2007 Share January 8, 2007 This two to three years, i notice that car ownership are increasing rapidly. Believe that in near future, more vehicles will be travelling on the road. Traffic condition getting worse, travelling time lengthen compare to few years ago, parking time also lengthen due to large amt of car and CP full, even for my HDB area, when i reach home late, i need to park at another CP as the one below my block all filled up with new cars. If condition get worst, i believe govt will intervene and solve problems with monetary means eg. more ERP gentry, increase ERP price, CP price etc. I wonder if this goes on, are we "killing" each other with such car buying fenzy?? the bloodi LTA always increase COE quota
Danielburgess Neutral Newbie January 8, 2007 Share January 8, 2007 I understand what you are getting at, it is true that many singaporeans have jumped onto the "car owners" bandwagon. Sad to say, it is not only the frequent jams, road and travelling conditions we have to worry about, there are financial consequences to this too. Let me use this example, I knew this girl, she was the real "show off" kind, being only 21, she bought a car on a very long installment scheme, similar to those $1 down crap, and because of that, she had to drop out of university to pay for the car, my advise was the same as everyone else, and that was to sell the car and carry on with your studies. Buy one when you finish studying and have a career. She did not take our advise, and she lost all her friends because of her new MLM career where she tried to suck us in. Anyway, like I tell everyone, if you can afford a car comfortably, get one! But if you know you have to struggle to make each months payments, you better think, and think and think, you get the picture. Cause unless you have a generous dad who is willing to bail you out when you are in debt, high chance you lose the car when you lose your job. Don't take whatever I said too seriously. I just like to look at situations from all kinds of weird angles. Lastly, I always wandered, what will happen to all the cars when the fossil fuels run out? Joneses Neutral Newbie January 8, 2007 Share January 8, 2007 Lastly, I always wandered, what will happen to all the cars when the fossil fuels run out? umm.. they are lying about the fossil fuel running out? well, if its true maybe they can be converted to run on bio fuels like palm oil, corn oil, cooking oil? or maybe by that time technology would enable us to roam around in fully electric vehs? i wouldnt worry too much abt it.. i have extreme faith in human imagination and intellectual resilience
Danielburgess Neutral Newbie January 9, 2007 Share January 9, 2007 Hahaha, that is where I agree to disagree. I do have extreme faith in human imagination and intellectual resiliance. I just don't have faith in the way money is added into the picture, and how it is the most important factor for some of those on top compared to issues such as cleaner emmissions, safety, and such other topics. Sabian Turbocharged January 10, 2007 Share January 10, 2007 It won't be long before they take a longer way round via BKE-KJE thus congesting my route to work. actually...i am guilty of "congesting" your route whenever i have to go to town. The ERP is a poor excuse for raising revenue/ not a solution for the CTE jam. It is only a band aid plastered over a gaping wound. I hope they move their butts and start building the NS highway. I will remember this 4 yrs later.
Crasher Neutral Newbie January 10, 2007 Share January 10, 2007 (edited) Cars will run on water... more specifically, hydrogen. It was on TopGear, in a youtube video, got it somewhere in my blog. Danielburgess Neutral Newbie January 10, 2007 Share January 10, 2007 Nice, a car that runs on water, but remember, alot of countries in this world has their backbone built on the oil industry, or in some cases, the oil industry controls or is the government of that country, when this happens, these countries will be in big trouble. And their governments know this, and they will do their best to keep these issues on a tight noose. I always had an idea America invaded Iraq for their oil, not for Saddam Hussein. Crasher Neutral Newbie January 10, 2007 Share January 10, 2007 Which is why I think they will have to look at the bigger picture someday. Nothing lasts forever, we will need to learn to change and accept.

DarkLord 1st Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 If you think the cars are jamming up the roads.....pleaseeeeee take a ride on the mrt during peak hours...say.....Jurong East to City or even Pasir Ris or Woodlands to City area. Its practically a sardine situation on the trains. Dont u think the traffic jams are bad.....wait till you try the public transport.....its 100 times worst!!!!!!!! At least I don't have to smell other people's BO in a jam along the expressway.
oomph Neutral Newbie May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 The new massive MRT plans is an admission that the transport system needs an overhaul, in some way validating car ownership today.
