Saw the papers today that Opel Combo now got Easytronic transmission. Seems like it's not too bad and the first diesel auto eurovan. Anyone went to check it out? How much is it going for?

Ok, here's my opinion about the Combo from a Combo Owner.

Personally, i bought my combo 3 months ago. In view of the low COE, i decided to go for a 2nd hand 3 yr old Combo DTI. Intend to sell/scrap in about 4 years time, so look for one with high COE. My COE is about 18k. Searched for a long time before i found a well maintained, low mileage, only for personal use combo. At 3 yrs old, mileage was at 40k. The previous owner took good care of the ride. The rear is fully carpetted with a special material.. Soft and Nice.. The van has gone thru Sound Clad, and also, has sound insulation. Also has v-kool done up, and paintwork is in very well maintained condition. Came with brand new tyres : Michelin XM1s, which are pretty good and have offered me good grip in wet weather.

Bought the van at around $20k. For a van in this condition, considered it a steal. Insurance from AXA (1 yr) comprehensive is about $900 without NCD. After a few yrs, would go down to 600+. Road tax is 500 per year. Mine came with free 1/2 year road tax.

The combo fuel's tank is 57 litres. If you really take ur time to pump, can go up to 56+ litres. Tank capacity is 57 litres. Average FC for me 17km/litre with a K&N drop in filter. Pumped a week ago @ 0.788 per litre, so 56 litres cost me $44. This lasted me 950km.

My driving style is about 60% expressway and 40% roads. expressway usually jam in the morning and going home. I believe FC can reach 18 if drive more on expressway. I only need to pump fuel twice a month, to last me about 2000km. So thats about $90-100 for fuel.

Instalment wise, i took a 6 yrs loan with downpayment. Paying about $320 per month.

Servicing wise, except for changing engine oil, i haven;t done anything yet. Driving has been very SMOOTH and power is there when i need it. Van is very very quiet.. When cruising on expressway it's similar to a car.

I would say, every month, including your parking at HDB, fuel, and instalment, if you get one like mine, it would cost around $500.

As i've just started working, having such a low cost transport is god blessed.. Can save more, and when time is right, change to a car :)

i used to drive the VW caddy (new version) before going to australia for studies. One of the feature of the caddy is that the steering is very very light, almost like feather, it gd cos it make driving easily....performance wise as it is a 2.0 NA, it will be slightly slower than kangoo but handling feel is ok.....very soild feel and a vehicle that will last....very stable due to the weight (1400) and tyres(195/65)...mi have the stock 15 " sport rims.

Turbocharged

Hi Gabriel, I have a question regarding van ownership in Singapore.

If the owner decides to close his shop and de-register his business altogether,

can he still own the van? Thanks for the input.

was thinking of doing so...but kinda cant bear to let go the liteace.....got feeling liao..nv ever break down once or fail to crank during 2yrs+ of ownership...

liteace

pros:

-big space (as compared to euro mini van, altot i seldom use the space, but there are times which i fully ultilised the space. so if im changing to eurovan, will be thinking of those van with 'loading' roof...

-coe valued near to 6k

-reliable,very........

-parts cheap + easy to get

-borneo motor claim warranty quite easy...sumting wrong wif my cabin lite as i anihow change and screw it up....my fault, but was repaired, no qns asked...

cons

-slightly high consumption at 14km/l

-warranty ending in 10mths time

-can get a brand new euro van with minimum top up....

what u guys think? im thinkin of fiat doblo...
