Imuya Clutched December 31, 2006 Share December 31, 2006 Another way is not to pamper the car, give it a good whack or two everyday. Do some spirited driving every now and then. Of cos, can go track also :p Just my 2cents....
Nero159 Neutral Newbie December 31, 2006 Share December 31, 2006 Totally agreed. Car always feel much livelier after a long NSH run. Though it might be due partly to the learning ECU getting used to high-speed driving.
Dermocyma Neutral Newbie December 31, 2006 Author Share December 31, 2006 i only drive at max 100km/h on expressway at max 5000rpm on accelation. no chance to track. pls tell me how to whack car? in detail pls.
Furrynadz 5th Gear December 31, 2006 Share December 31, 2006 u must understand first how carbon builtup and drop in engine performance comes about many factors contribute to it, including fuel used, engine oil used , driving style, cleanliness of air filter..etc by keeping ur car in good condition by using good engine oil(not those cxxxxxe type), ensuring u change ur air filter every 10k to ensure clean filtered air goes into engine, not driving at light throttle all the time all contribute to it of cos, drive responsibiliy on singapore roads, not cheong like a mad man a 3-4hr NSH drive at night (1am to 5am) when u can hit constant 120-150 most of the time should be sufficient, of cos make sure u familiar with driving at that speed on msia roads
Nero159 Neutral Newbie December 31, 2006 Share December 31, 2006 Just floor the accelerator in 2nd gear. That should get you to redline at about 100km/h. Actually you can try the following: From cruising at 100km/h, down shift to 3rd and accelerate hard to almost redline (should be about 130km/h for a 6-speed box) and hold for 2-3mins. Repeat 3-4 times. Do the above at least once a week.
Ldawn88 2nd Gear December 31, 2006 Share December 31, 2006 no need to redline. relatively high rpm will do. been doing that since my first ride. I was told to redline to 7000rpm for 1minute to clear carbon builtup in car every 3months or so. Is this car mechanic advise true or just BS? Expert advise please. Dwoon 1st Gear January 1, 2007 Share January 1, 2007 I was told to redline to 7000rpm for 1minute to clear carbon builtup in car every 3months or so. Is this car mechanic advise true or just BS? Expert advise please. Good lord.... 7K rpm ??? If at the highest gear. I'm already past 200km/h at 4.6K rpm. How? Put to 2nd gear or 1st gear ah and loot away??? Dwoon 1st Gear January 1, 2007 Share January 1, 2007 Does the car need to be under load since we're talking about exhaust flow and not the speed??? So can actually put car in Park or Neutral and just hit the pedal??? Holding high rpm for 2 to 3 min or till oil temp cannot tahan???
Furrynadz 5th Gear January 1, 2007 Share January 1, 2007 load dont matter park/neutral is not good cos ur veh being stationary will have less air flow to engine
Luv_presea 1st Gear January 1, 2007 Share January 1, 2007 redline to 7000rpm for 1min? wont the engine overheat? and damaged?
Dumb 4th Gear January 1, 2007 Share January 1, 2007 I think no need for redline. Constant high speed on NSH at 4k or 5k rpm for an hour or so good enough to clear the carbon. Whenever I come back from a long drive, I feel my engine very smooth. Anyway, if you want high rpm without breaking the law in Sg, just drive at 90 km/h with D2 on one of our expressways. Luv_presea 1st Gear January 1, 2007 Share January 1, 2007 but what i'm curious is wont it damage our engine if we redline? i redlined a volkswagen polo before and there was a wierd smell coming out of the engine bay.. and there was this hammering sound when i redlined a mit lancer(M).. is this safe? i agree that after constant high speed and high RPM, the car will feel much smoother.. Lucien Neutral Newbie January 1, 2007 Share January 1, 2007 No need whack like that. Kee siao. 7k rpm. Only going to spoil those cars who put say 30 weight oils. Just do some quick pick up runs. If manual try shifting at 3500-4000rpm. Auto is turn off overdrive and whack. ↡ Advertisement
