EventH 1st Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 (edited) How much does the toyota stock timing belt cost? Any other things that I need to get or change or replace together with timing belt? Is it worth the trouble to get one of these http://www.toda-racing.co.jp/product/belt/toyota.html http://www.c-one.co.jp/C-ONEPARTS/engine_belt.html http://www.hks-power.co.jp/products/engine/fine/fine.html thanks Edited December 26, 2006 by EventH ↡ Advertisement
Quekahwhye Clutched December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 Good day, How many types of belts in a car???
Ghostrider 3rd Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 I usually do the following when I change timing belt. 1) All beltings (fan, alternator) 2) Water Pump 3) Adjust tappet 4) replace all fulid (coolant and engine oil) If yours is stock, does not matter what belts you use. No performance gained. Go for factory belt or Mistusubo or Gates belt...these are reliable brands.
Pisces69 6th Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 I wud just stick with the OEM belt. Lexus has already spent a lot of $$$ & done all the testing necessary to weed out all those crappy belts & find the most suitable belt for their engine. EventH 1st Gear December 26, 2006 Author Share December 26, 2006 1) All beltings (fan, alternator) 2) Water Pump >>>>>>>>>>>>3) Adjust tappet (what is this?) How much does these cost? Planning to do these at 80k. Does the belt tensioner need to be changed as well?
Pisces69 6th Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 I usually do the following when I change timing belt. 1) All beltings (fan, alternator) AC & power steering belt also. 2) Water Pump 3) Adjust tappet 4) replace all fulid (coolant and engine oil) If yours is stock, does not matter what belts you use. No performance gained. Go for factory belt or Mistusubo or Gates belt...these are reliable brands. ========================= I also do the above with the additional of the belts highlighted in RED & the "tensioner" & the bearing check. Ghostrider 3rd Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 Tappets are the ones that open and closes your valves. Overtime they will emit a tap tap noise when you start the engine...some can be adjusted while some are self adjusting.
EventH 1st Gear December 26, 2006 Author Share December 26, 2006 I see ... how much is reasonable for a set of belts? This sort of thing change every 3-4 years, afraid I will be "chopped" by the stockist.
Pisces69 6th Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 For normal jap cars, it costs me about $300 plus incl all belts & tensioner & bearing. Also the water pump included. This is price at outside ws & not agent. Yours is Lexus, right? Then price wil b more ex lah.

Pisces69 6th Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 Hahaha. $500 don't want to spend but later spend thousands to change car. Can lah. U veli lich leh. Anyway I had my timing belt done at Komodo b4 for my Excel. They did a poor job & also charge me abt $500. Damm ex & lousy workmanship. Now I stay away from the AD's. I prefer those outside ws for price & workmanship.
Pisces69 6th Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 If normal Toyota, can go my regular ws at Yishun Indl Pk.A. Maybe I going tmw morning to repair my car. Had an accident yesterday & the front is smashed in. Need to get a quote. Maybe re-spray whole car this time.

Better Change ..........More Worth It......... Now COE Cheap........
Pisces69 6th Gear December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 Hahaha. Anyway I think all the AD's give lousy workmanship & charge sky high prices. Next time just go outside ws & get it done lah. By that time, the warranty expired already.
Upguy1 Clutched December 26, 2006 Share December 26, 2006 some toyotas dont come with timing belt...instead a timing chain is used... just like the mercs...no need to change that.... my ride got no timing belt..thats how i found out when i go to stockist.. only got fan/alternator belt....cost 70 bucks.. perhaps you should check fisrt b4 sending to ws....wait kenna chop carrot then u know... EventH 1st Gear December 26, 2006 Author Share December 26, 2006 Confirm not timing chain like my previous sunny. The ones in the pics are the (branded) timing belt for my car. These are in the region of 15000 - 17000 yen. Dunno how much those pple are going to wack in Singapore once got HKS/TODA on the product. Thats why I am looking for the rough price for the stock parts. If differ by less than say $100 for the stock timing belt, don't mind getting a "better" one. That's just ego at work. Spread out over 3-4years its not that much per year ... not like we change belts every 6mths. Timing belt important lah ... accessories bet the stock ones will do.
