Relentless Neutral Newbie December 20, 2006 Share December 20, 2006 (edited) Looking at these 2 secondhand cars.. IS200 - RWD - 2L - More parts available, toyota. - Old model. Abit boxy. S40 - FWD - 2.4L (road tax will be crazy...2.2k) - More expensive maintaince. - Current model. - REAL conti car. Both cars, 2004 models are going ard the 70+k range, with depreciation of about 7k. What do you guys think? Which is a better buy for me? I'm in my mid-20s, stable job with a budget of around 70k, don't want to spend too much on the car. Not looking to mod it any further too. Space is not an issue. Only have myself and parents to fetch around occasionally. Thanks for your comments guys!! Andrefoo Neutral Newbie December 20, 2006 Share December 20, 2006 I would go with the Volvo anytime. Built on the same platform as my car. Solid all round. Lexus IS200 is just a re-badged Toyota for resale in Singapore... -------------------------------
Carcraze 1st Gear December 20, 2006 Share December 20, 2006 (edited) i'd go for the IS200. you can never go wrong with a straight-6. but anyways, why not consider brand new cars? with a budget like yours, there are quite a few for you to consider. the Mazda6, Honda Civic 1.8/2.0, Ford Mondeo, Opel Astra 1.8 and the Subaru Legacy 2.0R-$80k. Stingerquek Clutched December 20, 2006 Share December 20, 2006 "WoWo" for me too ,this IS200 looks small considering a 2l car.
Nkps 1st Gear December 20, 2006 Share December 20, 2006 if you dun wan to let people say you drive LAO PEH's car, take IS. if you dun wan to let people say your LAO PEH drive your car, then take S40. if you are in dilema in both the above situation, you may want to consider buy BOTH or better still get a BRANDNEW car with the price tag of about your budget, it will mean lewer depreciation too. personally i will take the IS200. Carcraze 1st Gear December 20, 2006 Share December 20, 2006 the Volvo is smaller dude, yet it's a 2.4l car...
Zoomprotege Clutched December 20, 2006 Share December 20, 2006 Beg to difer... A Lexus IS200 is more than just a rebadged Toyota. Inline six engine and continential handling plus quality. Try compare a Mark X with a GS300 and tell me whether they are the same thing. Even the Toyota Altezza and the IS200 feels differently from each other. 1 built for luxury and 1 built for power. Relentless Neutral Newbie December 20, 2006 Author Share December 20, 2006 not thinking brand new..cos i'm pretty sure i'll want a change of car in less than 5 years time, it'll mean a smaller loss getting a second-hand car.... first hand just lose too much... although i did consider the new Civic and the legacy..and the Mz6.... Relentless Neutral Newbie December 20, 2006 Author Share December 20, 2006 wah...took me a while to understand...ahaha... I didnt want to get brand new...cos if i sell within 4-5 years...lose alot more leh...
Vesfreq Neutral Newbie December 20, 2006 Share December 20, 2006 IS200, cos' there are plenty of FWDs on the roads. RWD rides are rare and are not always at an affordable price tag. Plus, for an older model, the IS200 still looks good, IMO. S40 carries an uncle image, without doubt. Or the legacy (new) is a pretty good consideration too. If not, do consider the LGT (2nd hand). Its a blast too. 4WD and 5AT.
Relentless Neutral Newbie December 21, 2006 Author Share December 21, 2006 Yea...volvo does carry a more MATURED image..hehee...the road tax puts me off too.. Problem is there is no way for me to TEST drive an IS200...
Vesfreq Neutral Newbie December 21, 2006 Share December 21, 2006 Well, last time I was considering a teg, the SE actually offered a test drive if I was serious about the deal. Crap thing was that i took too much time and the teg got a new owner....
