Saaber,

Interestingly, the E200 kompressor noise level is what I am concern too.

In fact, I put off [shakehead] the purchase of W210 (previous E200 model)

because of the noise level when I test driven my colleague's car. Do u

know if MB has improved the noise level on current E200(W211) over the

W210 model ? [confused][nod]

laugh.gif Of course I know what your answer is ! laugh.gif

Between the E200K Inline4 and the E240 V6....of course the V6 engine will sound better. sly.gif

Like I mentioned earlier....have to test drive both models to compare performance and comfort levels. nod.gif

One more thing.....servicing...for BM..I think its every 25K km. Each servicing from PML should cost about S$300 - S$500.

For MB...its every 15K km. At C&C, 1st 15K km servicing should cost around S$180 - S$250. 30K km servicing should cost around S$700 - S$1200, depending on how many parts are worn out and replaced. [eg. brake pads, wipers, rotors]

Looking at this...it really makes on wonder if the warranty is really worth it...coz it means you will have to go back to the dealership for all major servicings in order to keep your warranty.

For BM, there are some specialist workshops which can do the job very well. nod.gif For MB, I have yet to hear of any specialist workshops which have the necessary STAR diagnostic machines and skilled mechanics to handle the complex electronics. unsure.gif

[.blue]Plan to upgrade my 3 years old cerfiro.

Considering bet 520 and E200/E240. 520 @$187k

seems good value now. Let me have our opinions

considering the pros and cons esp. BM and Merc

owners...Cheers & hv a great weekend. [.nod] [./blue]

hi f1&golf...

my $0.02 worth of opinion :

bmw 520iA - comfortable car (hv driven one), performance (i dun think so lah - floored it, found it a bit sluggish to my taste) current 520 looks ok but new one looks not so nice imho

if u have abt $200k to spend, why not try the S60R ... specs look good :

2.5L 5 cyl turbo

300hp

400Nm

6 speed manual/ 5 speed auto

5.7s 0-100

Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept [thumbsup][thumbsup][thumbsup]

Dynamic Stability Traction Control

AWD

Welcome to MCF! You've certainly come to the right place to ask for opioions. Being an ex-owner of a UDM, I found that its performance is not as hyped up to be what the marketing folks has successfully put across. Aside for the handling, thumbsup.gif the rest of it breaks down like any other car and worse still, I've had more warranty claims on a new Bimmer than I had with any of the Jap cars I've owned. Dunno abt Mercs as I haven't reached the age to drive them yet!

Assasin,

Care to give yr comments?

Albeit late in this...Welcome to MCF. Been driving the 3(e46) for a while now and in my opinion, thumbsup.gif. Have been seriously thinking of changing rides too, and was considering the 520(E39) and E200. Tested both, and here is my take:

  • E39, handles much better than the E200
  • Styling, both just as nice, and the E200 is looking nicer as the days get by but will still go for the E39
  • engine note, the E39 is sweet and melodic, has a DV and much smoother than the E200 at high revs
  • E200, as far as models, it is current so u wont bleed that much, whereas the E39 is undergoing some facelifts and will be edged out end 2003.
  • As far as servicing points, have been to both C&C and PML, and albeit both are ex, both Service centres are good and friendly, stick with one rep for the length of ur prospective car ownership

Well, do drop me a PM if you need more, but at this point in time, I'd still go for the E39, considering the Age factor...no offence, ASS!sweatdrop.gif

E46RADX,

Thks for inputs. Considering all the feedback, looks like there is a fair bit of

homework to be done beside test drives. With Phochem's new 520 photo contribution,

another option to consider. [confused] Set back is that I need to wait till year

end. [thumbsdown]
