Test Drive: Mitsubishi Outlander M

Alright, after the mazda showroom, mitsubishi is next.honestly, outlander was that striking enough to gain my interest. but todays exprience somewhat changed my mindset.

price wise is about 92k for M spec and 99k for G spec, exclusive of promotions and stuff.

'07 outlander comes with 2.4L sohc mivec engine, pumping out 170 horses and 21nm of torque. (if my memory serves me right) packaged with invecs II cvt, with 6sp manual mode. the party piece is the supposedly magnesium paddle shifter on the steering column. which means, the paddles are stationery. (you wont confuse yourself on which paddle to pull, especially when negotiating tight turns require more steeering lock) basically, 99.9% of the populartion wont be using it.

being a cvt, acceleration is seemless regardless of how hard the acclerator is pushed. (unless in manual mode). 170 horses doesnt feel very strong, but is still adequet to hual the car along.

another feature is the transmission selector. 2wd(fwd) / 4wd / lock (locks the diffs). 2wd or 4wd can be engaged on the move, at your command. this can be done via a circular dail, beisde the parking brake. VSC ABS EBD are standard, nt too sure about TC. but is there a way to temprarily disable the VSC for some fun?

suspesion, pretty ok. body roll is ok for its height / weight, as long as you dont attack the corner too hard. bumps and stuff, i'll leave it for you guys to tell. the test route didnt really allow me to test the bump absorbtion.

the outlander dashboard looks appealing, though the plastics used still suggests of a lower production cost. the meter console area has a multifuction lcd which is quite intereting. it even tells you which door is still open. G spec wll come with factory fitted leathers, and rockfort 9 speaker sound system with a big woofer in the boot. [flowerface] it too also comes with a sunroof.

priced at almost 100k, you'll be expecting maybe a cruise control. but sadly, there isnt. (at least for the M spec) though fog lights and 18" rim are a standard.

hah.. actually its the 06 one. but the 07 one has not much difference from the 06 one. funny thouhgh if seen EU outlander has 7 seats but sg broucher states only 5. but i guess the main difference is the engine. old model is 160 horses if i not wrong. 07 g spec comes with rockford sound system.
