Ehonda Neutral Newbie December 16, 2006 Share December 16, 2006 (edited) when u stop at trafic light, just apply foot brake and leave the gear at Drive wl do .. don't change the Auto gear to Neutral everytime u stop at the trafic light juntion, in the long run, u wl shorter the life spend of yr Auto gear box .. Iziz Clutched December 16, 2006 Share December 16, 2006 Pls don't... the 10 cents u save by changing to neutral will eventually cost u a 10k gearbox...
Ccssgm 1st Gear December 16, 2006 Share December 16, 2006 Never Put to Neutral....Use PARK.....Or Drive with Brake On.....
Quantum 5th Gear December 16, 2006 Share December 16, 2006 no need to put to 'N' lah, singapore most red light less 1 minute,
Try_conti 2nd Gear December 16, 2006 Share December 16, 2006 I'm sure your manual would also have it in there somewhere that advises you NOT to put it in 'N' if you intend to stop for less than 5 minutes. So at traffic light, forget it, use brakes. But if you're stopping for 5 minutes or more because you're waiting for someone, just park & switch off the engine (if conserving fuel is that important to you). Shifting to 'N' whenever you stop is a 'bad habit' inherited from driving a manual car. You do that in manual but you DON'T do that in an auto-car. Cornymike Neutral Newbie December 18, 2006 Author Share December 18, 2006 hmmm...so when "N" is needed?????
Starian Clutched December 18, 2006 Share December 18, 2006 When u need to push the car if ur car cannot be started! Or if u need to get off ur car to let the custom check ur boot....
Mzrmazda3 6th Gear December 18, 2006 Share December 18, 2006 Jus leave it to "Drive' and step on your brakes Frequently shifting in between will shorten the lifespan of your auto gear box
Watwheels Supersonic December 18, 2006 Share December 18, 2006 Actually someone here in the forum mentioned it b4. It's to keep the transmission fluid circulating to keep the gearbox in operating temp. If u put to "N" heat will build up and shorten the life of your gearbox. It made sense to me. U decide. Raining Neutral Newbie December 18, 2006 Share December 18, 2006 Although I am not a big fan of autos , I did own a auto nissan couple of years back. I did the "drive" and apply brakes . Unknown to a "Auto Noob" like me back then the car will creep forward if the brakes are not stomp firmly enough. After I kiss a taxi and fell into a drain once , I always put "Parked" mode at redlights .
Mzrmazda3 6th Gear December 18, 2006 Share December 18, 2006 Bro, that's a pretty bad experience for you on the 'Auto' gear thingy You are definately right on the 'Must Step Hard' on the brake pedal thingy and not jus putting our feet there too lightly
Watwheels Supersonic December 18, 2006 Share December 18, 2006 (edited) U or taxi fell into the drain?? Use the handbrake mah. Yeah it takes time getting used to. Edited December 18, 2006 by Watwheels
Turbonetics 2nd Gear December 18, 2006 Share December 18, 2006 i will just put it at Neutral. because if still on "Drive" mode,it will still move a bit if you don't brake hard enough or if you let go of the brake pedal.on "Drive" mode i think the gearbox is stillrunning and will cause more wear and tear easier. Raining Neutral Newbie December 18, 2006 Share December 18, 2006 (edited) Haha its 2 separate accidents . 1st one is creep forward and dented a cab's bumper . The cab uncle is nice enough to ask for $120 only and not chop me seeing that I am obviously panicking ( Sibei greenhorn then somemore 1st official accident ). 2nd incident is along Bukit Timah along those many Petrol Kiosks . Ok this is sibei co.ck and embarrassing . While driving I was, ironically admiring my newly bought $120 Grado headphones. 3 factors made me go into the drain . 1.) Spanking new headphones drop on carpet 2.) Dumb idiot driver bend down to pick resulting in leg stretch and Vvroom. 3.) Low curb The alibi I give to my workshop uncle is dunno which cb cat from whose house jump into my lane. Edited December 18, 2006 by Raining
