Oversized Tyre size problem?

Hi Guys/ Gals,

I am contemplating to buy a RIM + tyre from my friend whom profile is slightly bigger than the stock size. Case:

Stock - 175/70/13

New Rim - 195/55/15

The difference in the diameter is about 3.5%. I know the speedometer/ ODO will reflect 3.5% slower too...

May I know what will happen if I go for such a change?

1) Will the tyre rub against the Fender?

2) Braking prob?

3) Alginment problem?

4) Causing the axle to wear out much faster?

5) Any other implication to the car drive abilty?

1) Will the tyre rub against the Fender? (If the offset is the same, no problem.. wrong offset should be the concern..)

2) Braking prob? (no problem..)

3) Alginment problem? (no problem..)

4) Causing the axle to wear out much faster? (well, some say yes but i dont see the concern)

5) Any other implication to the car drive abilty? (nope....)

btw, make sure the nuts pitching is the same.....(some using 4, some using 5 and some diameter 100 pitch and some 101.6...) [:p]

tks for the adv.

for offset, whats the usual limit ?

Pitching, I know... should not be a prob... as my friend car is an altis and mine is an accent , both 4X100PCD.

it is recommended to keep within +/-3%. in yr case, it is a bit out. u can get the 15" rim but downsize to 185/55 or 195/50 tire

Try getting a kid to wear a pair of army boots and observe how he walks- from the observations you should be able to correlate to bigger size tyres for small cars.

Agreed. Most UHP tyre are available from 15" onwards

for 14" i thk bridgestone GR80 is not bad. anyway i had seen accent on 15" rim so shld not be an issue. just rememeber to get a lower profile tyre with lighter rim

Generally higher fuel consumption, more costly tyres, more discomfort in your ride and if the tyres is budging out of the mudguard, it is an offend under LTA ruling.flowerface.gif
