I always wonder whether my lowly octy come with ABS, since the trim level is lower than the other octys and I don't really trust the SE when they say yes yes yes.

Was driving home on Saturday about 4pm, road was wet just after raining. Was along SLE, turning off to BKE (near the tuft club) when suddenly saw cars braking and jamming up front. Hit the brakes, and felt the brake pedal working funny. The brake pedal jerk under my feet, felt 6-8 jerks a second. I thought MATI Liao, brakes not working. But car stop beautifully, straight, without any skidding.

So for those out there still wondering whether Octy Classic comes with ABS, the answer is yes. Lucky for you, you don't have to be in my situation to find it out.

Cheers.

Glad that you are ok. Nowadays, euro cars(incl jap) put safety as of paramount importance, in fact its a strong selling point(prob main reason [:p] ). Most models throughout the range would have ABS, considered standard for many cars as a primary safety system.

I would normally advise those who have not tried ABS to try it on a safe road. Some newbies may get scared by the vibration thru the pedal and instead of keeping the foot on the pedal, the let go which is the worst situtation.

Another info is that....althought ABS is a safety feature, it prevents your wheels from locking up and will not shorten the braking distance. If you compare with a skidding vehicle, the the distance is shorter but if compare with a non skidding vehicle, then the distance is actually longer.

So the in the event that you have the option to swerve out of danger....just stomp on the pedal and steer away from trouble !!

Very good points there, GR - [;)] In fact, when ABS was first introduced to certain makes years ago, there were actually more accidents involving these cars and this was traced back to the fact that drivers who'd little or no experience with ABS simply panicked and released the brakes or reduced their stepping pressure when they felt the pulsing.

Also, regarding the braking distance, it doesn't help that there's some less-informed ppl out there who were sold with the thought by ignorant (or unscrupulous) sales staff on the 'advantages' of ABS.... [:(]

ABS is there to help you stop in a straight line. at most bang into car in front and not skip out of your lane and cause a massive pile up.

But human nature will take over, KNN most of the time I go into another lane rather than stop..... got to change, got to change.

Back when ABS was introduced the last decade, the American Transportation Authority had been trying to educate their drivers to just STOMP! Many pileups occur due to drivers panicking and releasing the brakes [:/]

Yah, ABS is to prevent skidding.... that is to stop safely... but not to reduce braking distance..... so got to keep a safe distance still...

M-ABS ..... your right thigh muscles must be much bigger than your left !! [cool][laugh]

Right leg must be lightning quick to pulsate the brake pedal too! [laugh]

Hello....not true okay..its main purpose is to assist you to maintain control of your vehicle in a e brake......and not assist braking in a striaght line. If you need to do that....even when your wheels are lock....just hang on to your steering wheel and SCREAM !!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Off course if you can steer away from trouble is the best !! [:)]
