Which model did you ask for? Is it the same as the one I posted initially (DA-735)? Apparently, there's a newer model, the DA-745, with built-in TV tuner, amplifier as well. Do let us know. I'm really keen and don't mind joining in with you.

Thanks for the info spinworkx, 3 questions:

 

- Does it have an optical output

- Can it display chinese mp3 tags

- Can PM me which ebay store you got from? :P

1) No optical output unfortunately, so no 5.1 :) IN fact it only supports DD5.1 and NO DTS support. Weird how it supports DD5.1 but only allow output via stereo..or maybe i must have missed out some connector...since i dun have a 5.1 system in my car, i didn't bother about the 5.1

 

2) Not sure about this because i've not played anything on it other than DVD movies...i use my regular HU for MP3, sound better since there's no need to go through an Aux port.

 

3)I got it from ebay.com and did a bid on the store. Unfortunately that store is no longer around in ebay...but you can find many similar and better models on ebay.com.hk and .cn, just look for those power seller or ebay shops...to be safe

Just be mindful that you do indeed get what you pay for..

At this price, it's really cheap...so don't expect too much.

Built quality isn't as good, screen isnt as clear, sound isn't that fantastic...features are minimal...

If you're ok with all that, then China DVD players are great for you (Like me)...

I've played around with Pioneers and Alpines and stuff and they are indeed better in everything...but they're at least 3x more expensive...so just don't expect too much from this player. i'm more than happy with mine since i mainly use it only to occupy my time watching TV series while waiting for my OC to finish work :)...for movies, i'd rather watch at home in full DTS and big screen :)

 

If you all want to try out my set, i'm ok with it one la...you might/might not like it...

If you expect Pioneer feature at China Price...then sorry la...no such thing :)

Really thank for your advice. I know exactly what you trying to say.

 

I buy quite some china E products in SG. Shincoo DVD player, ENZER DECT phone, etc. I even think about a LCD TV. All have the function but lack in design and taste. But, they are very cheap, some feature are not that bad.

 

As long as you expection match what you paid for, you may be surprised in some products. If you want something cheap and use not so often, it is a wise chioce for china product.

China is going to do what it has done to the VCD market. i.e. completely dominate it with dirt cheap models...

 

One advantage about the VCD player from China - they can literally play anything (including the badly scratched and the pirated ones lipsrsealed.gif) Not too sure about the China made DVD players...

I agree totally with you. My intention of getting a basic set is just to preoccupy time while waiting for whatever/whoever I'm supposed to wait for. For full effect, I would also watch at home on my 34" TV. Idea is to get something that 'got picture, got sound, can liao' laugh.gif

Ya, china VCD has so called "best error-correction" and "all-disk compatible". They don't imply those lisencing check that is why so welcomed by end customer. Customer is the king.

Just got the supplier reply. Initially I asked for the model of 2-Din Touch Screen Tft LCD with GPS and blue tooth(DV-6806G). The Map thing for singapore is issue. Then check both DA-745 and 735. Below is reply

 

 

Maybe you need buy the map card in you local country. It is very easy, you just buy this card, then insert into the model,that is ok.

 

The blue tooth GPS is wiht SIRG III chip not the old type.

 

According to your request, the DA-745 is the best choice, DA-735 is also good, but not better than DA-745. If you need touch screen, the SA-7812 is the best choice.

 

As you said, as long as got picture and sound, it should be accepted!! If got GPS with accepted price, it is a plus.

 

So two options:

 

1) cheap DVD play (+TV), DA-735 or 745

2) cheap DVD +GPS, DV-6806G is usd650 with USA's map, need to check any cheaper model and deduct cost map of USA

 

Is there any GPS Guru can answer whether it is just that simple to plug the Sing map will work?

I've got a Garmin nuvi 300 with free SG/MY maps from www.malsingmaps.com. So the DV-6806G is not on my list. Also, I'm not sure whether it is compatible with the free maps from www.malsingmaps.com or not (highly unlikely). Next, the official maps from Garmin may or may not work with it as well so it's a gamble.

Those $200 portable DVD players work well but they just don't look as cool as an in-built one in the car that has a retractable screen...hehe, friends all go AWWWWW, WOW....whenever i tell them i have a DVD player and they dunno where it is :) only after the screen come out, they all act damn surprise hahaha..cheap thrill, but well...
