Bros,

Need your expert advise.

I am currently driving:

Make: G9 Corolla 1.5 XLI (A)

Date of Reg: Jul 02(damn...missed the 130 OMV by 2 months)

OMV: $18,000+

COE: $33,009 [crazy]

Scrap body: $5,000-$7000

Come Jul 07, My car will hit 5 years old.

I am thinking seriously of changing to FD Civic 1.8 (A).

Question is....should I go ahead and change my ride? Or should I just continue maintain and driving the G9? Bear in mind this car has been serving me very wellfor the past 5 years with no problems whatsoever.

Thanks for your advises

if forget about finance issue purely talk about car, since 'the car serving you very well for the past 5 years with no problems whatsoever', just keep it until 10 years [thumbsup]

Perhaps you can also reveal your loan information? If solely based on your car information, it is hard to provide any useful advice. Most importantly, why do you want to change?

P/S: I was in the same situation as well (I'm waiting for my Civic) as my Lancer is about the same age as yours (Apr 02).

I have a +ve nett gain of around $18,000 after settling my loan and taking into account of scrapping the ride + $5,000 for body. [thumbsup]

Yes Five years is along time in Singapore for a tin can car.

I think it will be wise for you to book your car when the COE drops. That will be the last bid before the CNY. Book it then and you will get your car in April or May...just in time to scrap it before July.

Not many people drives a five year old car in Singapore anymore. This will be the trend till the gov reduce the ARF to 0%. Every few years the ARF will be cur by 20% from 110%(current), each time it was cut, the car price becomes cheaper. Meaning its better to drive a new and cheaper car, the loan will also be cheaper and you save on interest.

So start monitoring the COE and check out your dream car. Good luck.

Yeah, that's what I think oso, but has been holding back all this while due to sentimental reasons. hehe... Having driven the car for 5 years, you tend to develop some attachment to it.

IMHO, the G9 Corolla is a hell of a reliable car, FC is very good, spritely compared to the Thaiyota Altis, spacious, mild mannered (some may call it boring). It is difficult to find any current models that can match it on the above.

G9 has been the most reliable car in recent years......its a car that has good FC and most importantly maintenance free(not counting regular servicing)..if u r getting the civic...i think got to drive longer period....the COE now is low and the omv is ~20k odd...but the car 70Kplus....(that means body 40K...??)puzzles me

if you really want to change you car, actually you can consider Jap corolla axio as a replacement, now it is available from PI abt $56K, much cheaper than civic FD, declared FC 17.2km/L [thumbsup]

I just trade-in and export my 11/2002 G9 XLi ('03 facelift) to the car exporter. My wifey like the car very much, but after taking into account all the economics & depreciation, and with the car having some wear and tear that is no longer cover after the 3 yrs warranty coverage, still think wiser to change to a new car. If you are a Chinese and want a new car for this coming CNY, can consider to go in now. Otherwise, if you can wait, try to wait till around CNY period to book a YOM 2007 Civic, demand will taper off by then and no point getting the YOM06. Gahmen may also announce new car tax structure next year.

imo, u still have a net gain of $18k, that means u r in +ve equity already. [thumbsup]

Unless u can downpay a lot for the next car, why sink into debt (-ve equity) again?

Might as well save up more after repaying your current loan and u may even be able to save enough to pay cash for your next car in 5 years' time. Then can start saving to pay for a next car yet in another 5-10years' time. in that case, u r always ahead of the game. Wats more u have a reliable car there... jus my thots.

For me, am driving G9 registered Sep 2003. Saw and fell in love with CIVIC VTIS (A). Booked car, and will be getting next Jan/Feb. Period.

If you can, don't count the dollar and cents too much. Just do it.

Well financially you are sound. I was in similar circumstances and went for it. As long as it is within your ability and you "want" it (obviously you don't need it), then go for it! sly.gif

I am now waiting for my Latio after driving my sunny for six years plus.

Grew attached to my Sunny, however, as many will say, after 5 years,

many problems in the car starts to surface.

For me, the radiator spoilt is the last straw, I decided to part company

with my Sunny [laugh]
