oh no no, 10mm isn't that thick. ideally i'd love to have 1 full inch but looking at the price ....

a nice place to SP would be your door panels (plastic). many people stick a layer of bitumen onto the plastic panel to reduce rattling. sticking one of these foam layers additionally onto the bitumen layer would have further effect.

i think asiatic sold me the foam at a carrot price ... mine only 1/4 inch and think it was more than $7 ... so at least now we know, 10mm = $7.60.

but not sure if it was an error - do they really have 10mm? they go by inches so 10mm probably about 3/8th of an inch, but not sure if they really have that size. i know they have 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch.

ONE INCH!??! [sweatdrop] now that's the thickest SP material i read about in all the forums i know! you really hardcore! can fit bo?

10mm is think to me cos most ppl say their materials are 2mm to 4mm.

as for the price you paid, it may not be carrot price cos sometimes smaller things (or thinner in this case) can be more expensive than bigger ones due to manufacturing difficulties. not sure if this applies to what you bought, just a guess.

There was this guy doing SP with this material for some other forums. Maverick713 did posted his DIY before here http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/Aftermarke...he_car_P73955-4

Maverick713 stated

'The purpose of the bitumen sheets is for mass-loading of the flimsy metal roof sheets to reduce noise transmission via panel resonance. It is not enough to block off direct noise intrusion. For that you would need to put a noise barrier sheet such as Superlon, a nitrile rubber closed-cell foam sheet commonly used for heat insulation.

Thus, before reassembling back the roof, I sandwiched a couple of the 1/4 inch thick Superlon sheets (trimmed to correct size) between the roof lining and the bitumen layers to supplement the fibre on the lining as a noise barrier. I cut one sheet for the rear section before the cabin light and one smaller sheet for the section after the cabin light ending before the map lights. Although the Superlon sheets are not self-adhesive, no glue is needed as the roof lining would hold them in place when closed back. '

to update on the "rubber" pricing of the "rubber" superlon mats,

3" x 4", i bought quarter inch thick, they quoted me $9.45 (GST included) each. think 3/8" is about $12, and 1/2" is less than twice the price of 1/4".

so if 10mm = $7.60, price is higher by 60+%. so they came up with a bull, and a cxxk of a story, of how prices went up 3 months ago etc etc etc ...
