Vit4wd 1st Gear November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 (edited) Visited the Motor Show on Sat afternoon and was done in less than 2 hours - an absolute disappointment. The S$10 ticket is way overpriced for a show of such sub-standards - hardly of international standard. So few exhibitors. The exhibition hall was like a ghost town - hardly any crowd! The S$7 ticket offered in previous Motor Shows had more value as there were more exhibitors. Many major marques like Mitsubishi, Chevrolet, Daihatsu, Ford, Kia, Mercedes Banz, BMW, Peugeot, Proton, Ssangyong, Volvo & VW were missing. Perhaps they felt that booth rental was way too expensive and the Motor Show did not meet their marketing objective. The Motor Show is more of a warm up to Sexpo to be held this coming week, with many male visitors more keen in the female models than the actual cars on display. Oneshot1kill Neutral Newbie November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 Didnt give two hoots about damn cars but some of the car show babes sure look gorgeous ! Anyone with nice pics of them to share here ?
Felipe 3rd Gear November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 i think its more like a Motor Fair rather than Motor show...SEs trying to sell cars rather than explain to u the technical aspects of the car. always have a SE giving me price list instead of telling me whats good abt their new product. i dunno how true but a fren told me the shows in europe are more pro. they go thru the car with u rather than selling. i dont have issues with an empty hall...crowd size dun determine a quality show. in fact, the lesser crowd the better. anyway, i can only say the guy from Skoda was the only one who bothered telling me abt the Octavia 2.0FSI. other than that, the whole show really feels cheap, like a pasar malam. if its for sales, no point having a show as SG is so small and can simply go showroom and look, no need to pay $10 somemore. now i know y some big names didn bother to show up. Paffendorf Neutral Newbie November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 No and I wast the ticket money ....moreover less FT race queen also... I guess that this Motorshow is a wrapup case and never to be shown again unless something need to be done if they wanna have to make it a comeback.. Silver_blade Turbocharged November 18, 2006 Share November 18, 2006 Agree, it's more like a car fair rather than a motor show. Not enough concept cars, new launches, etc,,and $10 for lesser models...is no good.
Vit4wd 1st Gear November 19, 2006 Author Share November 19, 2006 (edited) Organising the Motor Show is an easy way to make money. 1. Rent exhibition space from SUNTEC 2. Sell booth/exhibition space to potential exhibitors* * The size of the raw booth space taken up by Borneo Motors at its Lexus/Toyota booth costs at least S$100,000 (conservative estimate) for the duration of the show, excluding booth build up costs 3. Charge all visitors S$10 each. Hey Presto!!! - You make a 7 figure profit $$$ after deducting all expenses. The Motor Traders Association has foresight but they failed to improve on the motor show. Same thing year after year! And did you notice the lack of overseas visitors? (if any at all). They shd not NAME this AN INTERNAIONAL MOTOR SHOW. A 'local' Motor Show or Motor Malam (aka Pasah Malam) is more appropriate !!! Edited November 19, 2006 by Vit4wd
Shull Turbocharged November 19, 2006 Share November 19, 2006 the last motorshow at 2004 was way better..more marquees showcasing their cars..i totally loved the merc booth showcasing their retro cars.. this one is not even half of the standard of the 2004 one.. Rm2s 5th Gear November 19, 2006 Share November 19, 2006 frankly, 2 years from now, another motor show will be organised, most people who complain will still go, pay $10 and then come back here to say it is not good ... haha
Blackyv Turbocharged November 19, 2006 Share November 19, 2006 i didnt went but im shocked to know >>>>>>>Many major marques like Mitsubishi, Chevrolet, Daihatsu, Ford, Kia, Mercedes Banz, BMW, Peugeot, Proton, Ssangyong, Volvo & VW were missing.<<<<<<<<< what's left to show huh??? not that i mind to see ferrari or those concept cars (anyway, we r not allow to tocuh and one customer from states happen to be here and he commented--> why we can't touch or sit in the ferrari?? all cars has open door for all to play with any cars in states car show.....u name it they have it but why singapore car show dont allow that??? i go car show not to see the car from a disctance...that is crap... i can do that anytime on the road....car show is for us to touch and sit inside....weird.......) but if i go, i prefer to see more practical car which we could buy....... Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear November 19, 2006 Share November 19, 2006 Becos the cars don't belong to the companies - the lambo with the gun metal custom spray paint belongs to private enthusiast. Case of cheapo companies with limited promotion budget, that' why. Worse - no tuner garage present with their works. Why? Probably LTA/ROV will be there to book them Car shows will always be lame here due to these guys.
Vit4wd 1st Gear November 19, 2006 Author Share November 19, 2006 LTA/ROV knows about all these mods things, that cars are illegally mod and their owners pay undertable money to workshops who have contacts at the inspection ctrs to "pass" these cars without having to remove the mods. LTA shd shut down all mod workshops if they want to effectively "ban" such mods. It's like allowing a herion factory to operate in S'pore when herion is banned. LTA is just doing a "politically currect" thing by closing an eye to this issue.
Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear November 19, 2006 Share November 19, 2006 (edited) Many inappropriate analogies used here. One - modding car is far from heroin and drug production. Given proper standards, many would like to be 100% legal. Problem is LTA/ROV does not test to standards, and prefer the easy way out - JASMA, JVIA or other international standards (US CARB etc). This means our garage cannot R&D. Worse condition they impose when we have all the international documentation - original car manuacturer must agree to the mod - WHAT? Asking the manufacturer to recognise the mod and with it, implications for warranty claims for modded cars? Case in point - it is possible to get CARB approved street legal superchargers for many Japanese makes from the likes of Jackson Racing for US, who has tighter emission standards than us. We'll like to see what LTA/ROV needs to get them approved. Edited November 19, 2006 by Vblaster_w211 ↡ Advertisement
