Putter Neutral Newbie November 17, 2006 Share November 17, 2006 (edited) Dear all, Nowadays, whenever my car enter the "kick-in" condition, this signal light will turn on. Sometime it just blink for a few seconds and went off. However, there was once it stay and I have to drive it to CAG to get the diagnostic kit to turn it off. Everything is still fine. Any inputs or experience what actually happen? I asked the CAG folks and he said most likely due to spark plug firing issue. But when I refer to the manual, it said it is exhaust fault, and the ECU will switch to a safe mode. BTW, my car ECU is Revo. Hope to hear some inputs and advice. Fortress Clutched November 17, 2006 Share November 17, 2006 The later is probably correct in your point. The last time I had an issue was due to the O2 sensor, the cable had an opened circuit.
Putter Neutral Newbie November 17, 2006 Author Share November 17, 2006 ya...I also think it is probably the sensor issue. I also had encountered the air-con temperature sensor did not activate before. Hence, the cold-air unable to turn on. I open up the bonnet, but can't find anything. So I slammed it down. And the temp sensor was back funtionining again. Machiam like computer reboot.
Fortress Clutched November 17, 2006 Share November 17, 2006 As for the aircon, it is probably the fuse box on top of the battery that is failing, happened to me. Have a look at it and make sure the fuse is not fused onto the box, it is a simple fix which do not need to change the whole box, like what will be told to you. Cccs Neutral Newbie November 17, 2006 Share November 17, 2006 Yeah, my Superb TDI has this prob too. Error msg appeared in meter is 'EMISSION WORKSHOP!'. Went down 2 workshop twice & they juz reset the ECU. This prob still happen intermitently. 'Heard' a few other TDI units hv this prob too, but not all the units. Will b going workshop reset next week. If prob still persist might need 2 go CA.
Cccs Neutral Newbie November 17, 2006 Share November 17, 2006 Hi Fortress, care 2 share wat was done 2 solve this sensor issue? Was the sensor replaced or..?
Fortress Clutched November 17, 2006 Share November 17, 2006 The first one on the O2 sensor, I cut the wire and closed the look without the sensor. Most sensors work on a closed circuit system. As for the fusing(melting) of the fuse to the fuse box, pull out the fuse get a new one, scrape the plastic off the contacts, bend it inward and put the fuse back. Cccs Neutral Newbie November 19, 2006 Share November 19, 2006 Hi... thanks 4 ur prompt reply. Sounds a bit technical 4 me 2 understand. Anyway i hope the workshop guys can solve this prob. The funny thing is after i parked my TDI overnite 4 approx 9 hours, the sensor faulty light will disappear itself, but then comes on again when i start driving after a hour. Putter Neutral Newbie November 19, 2006 Author Share November 19, 2006 Then looks like really it is the sensor stability problem. May be the setting is too sensitive. That is why too much electornics is no good for a car though they are very attractive.
Try_conti 2nd Gear November 19, 2006 Share November 19, 2006 seems to be heat related leh ... parked overhite, cooled down, no problem. After running for an hour, heated up, failed. This could be tricky though. Better send in to workshop.
Fortress Clutched November 20, 2006 Share November 20, 2006 The guys wil tell you, change the sensor.Note that most sensors on cars work on a closed circuit method, all you need to do is to get to the wire and close it. Getting under the car is the only way.
Tashi Clutched November 20, 2006 Share November 20, 2006 hi bro needs to get under the car means no go for most of us, unless at workshop. bless tashi
Fortress Clutched November 20, 2006 Share November 20, 2006 Sad to say, that the way for most I guess.
Lightspeed Clutched November 20, 2006 Share November 20, 2006 Check your coolant and the hoses connected to it plus the sensor as well. Seems like an overheating issue as it only happens when the turbo kicks in
Putter Neutral Newbie November 20, 2006 Author Share November 20, 2006 (edited) Went to Servo just now over lunch. Philip diagnosed it and found 4 miss-firing fault on coil#1. So it seems to be a consistent real issue on the firing. Spark plug just changed 2 months back. So he suspected due to the spark plug coil issue and I asked him replaced all the 4 coils. I tested with "kick-in" and no more issue. According to Philip, this type of issue frequently happen on the 1.8T engine. Earlier coils were not so robust to high temperature and suffered early failure. Edited November 20, 2006 by Putter
Try_conti 2nd Gear November 20, 2006 Share November 20, 2006 what's 'kick-in' ?
Putter Neutral Newbie November 20, 2006 Author Share November 20, 2006 (edited) When you are on say 4th or 5th gear (either manual or auto), and when you suddenly step hard on the accelerator (all the way down, make sure the pedal not blocked by the matt), it will switch all the way to 1st gear and the revolution will ramp on the way up to 6K. Powerful but not moving fast. So you have to quickly switch to higher gear to speed up. Edited November 20, 2006 by Putter
