Corrochan Neutral Newbie November 7, 2006 Share November 7, 2006 Dear Airwavers, I am thinking of fixing a bike rack on the tail gate of my Airwave. I hope to carry 2 adult bicycles but could not fit them into the boot (i have 2 child seats at the back). Need some advice from those who have experience: a. Is the bike rack safe? Will it be road hazard? b. Will the bike rack or bikes damage the back of my Airwave? i.e. will it dent the bumper or tailgate or create scratches? c. The rack I intend to buy costs $45/- and is commonly used. Any specific brand that i should or should not buy? d. Any experience to share will benefit me & family cheers ↡ Advertisement
Karu 6th Gear November 7, 2006 Share November 7, 2006 I've got no experience... But I've seen many people mount the bike racks on hatchbacks. Should not have problem securing them to the tailgate. They looked like they're padded at the contact points to prevent scratches too.
Bumbhead Neutral Newbie November 8, 2006 Share November 8, 2006 Our ride has a problem with rear bike racks. Take note of the center brake light housing which looks like a mini spoiler for the airwave. Most rear bike racks will need to have two mounting points at this position and for the airwave, this two mount points will most probably have to be at the plastic housing for the center brake lights. Due to the design, the mount cannot secure onto the metal chasis of which is covered by this plastic housing. If this is mounted on the plastic housing, chances is that it will crack due to the force on the mount points when securing the rack with the bikes mounted on. Now also at a lost as to how to mount the racks. Mine is the Saris Bone rack use on my former ride. Headache!

Gl240 Neutral Newbie November 9, 2006 Share November 9, 2006 You can try Tan Bike shop at owen road (off serangoon road). They should be able to give you some advise. However, if you have rear roof fiber spoiler, it will be headache cos the mounting point might damage your fiber spoiler.....
