Wash Wheels Daily Will Induce Earlier Wear Off of Disc Brake

I am not sure if this is true to you. However, this is what I had experienced. I think this is especially true when washing the wheel while the disc brake is still hot, or drive off immediately after wash. The materials could have soften, inducing earlier prematured wear off.

One or two times a week may not have significant effect. However, daily wash will see impact.

My earlier disc brake wear off after about 45K mileage on daily wash basis. So is my earlier car. Now I wash my car once a week and the disc brake seems to last longer.

Not sure if you guys have experience this.

where got such thing? [shocked] Sometimes it suddenly rains when u r driving so the rain will warp the brake disc? I think disc are built with consideration for contact with rain n water liao. Also what if u drive over a puddle of water right?

Having sadi I normally allow the dics to cool off a bit then I wash rims

Shouldnt be....The high wear rate of the pads are more due to the fact that our cars are 1.5 tons in weight. its a well known fact that Vag cars do experience higher pad wear. or....you have been doing some realy hardcore driving [sly][sly][sly]

during raining, the disc and brake pad don't touch the water, thus making the braking efficient. If not the brake wun work. The brake pad only touch the water when you drive through a puddle of water or you spray water.by the way, disc touch water nvm one,it will dry up.Rain dun instant bring down the temperature of the pad, whereas direct hose do.Btw,how much to replace a disc brake?

What you said is logical, metal heated upand cool down will cause unneccssary damge to the materials.

However, it is funny, when CA told me about this before. My rebutted was that, does Skoda design cars that cannot drive in the rain where the wheel will be wet, after heated up. Strongly believe that the heated up and sudden cooding down is factored into the design.

However, I also agree that today's cars are a little less durable, because of a good spare-parts to get people to check their car parts.

As for washing, it is because, you have cleaned away the dust formed and the dust actually create further wear when the brake is applied. In fact, one of the reasons for ventiliated brake is to rid the brake from dust besides cooling.

metals must heat to a certain temp and quench before anything happens. Like you said, it's just plain ludicrous.

does it mean i can't drive in the rain?

how can metals turn soft after washing? damn... i can't drive int he rain, my car might melt! [flowerface]

no no.the back part of the disc brake is metal. But the padding is rubber. He is saying the rubber heat up and cool down drastically will damage the rubber padding, not the back parts of the metal. And during changing of disc brake, the disc wun be change, only the rubber padding.

You are absolutely right, it is ridiculous, whether rubber, metal or anything in the car, it is designed for a purpose, especially, weather like rain, unless Skoda is Made in Desert, no rain most of the time, except occassion flood there, then you cannot drive..

aiyo...dunno how come from daily wash on wheel become driving in rain will affect disc brake. Now I know how the rumours can get so diverted. [laugh]

But I really believe if you wash your wheel when it is hot, especially daily, it will damage to the disc. Try if you don't believe. [sly]
