I can only consider 4-2-1, there are some specifically designed for my engine laugh.gif

Juz want to check out with other Bro before going any further.......

Last I heard, Dr Mike had done his on his 156......wonder did he remove his rear box.

make sure you get one that's make for your car, else it'll defeat the purpose nod.gifnod.gifnod.gif don't think you'll be able to find one for your ride in J.B. unsure.gif

I think Dr Mike did replace the rear box sly.gif

bigcry.giftoo little $$$$ but too many hobbies bigcry.gif

I was toying with the idea of whether to get the extractor first or the rear box, b'cos both also very the $$$$.

My objective is - improve low-end grunt for city driving

What do you think?

Bro Mel,

it is difficult to answer your question, as exhaust tuning got to do with controlling of the exhaust gas flow ie: energy generated by the flow. Normally the extractor can be 'tuned' with length and diameter of the pipes and it can be done by trial and error using a dyno or be done on a engine/exhaust computer simulation software.

But for easy understanding, there are 2 basic designs of extractors in the market.

On a 4 cylinder engine there are basically 2 types of headers: 4-2-1 and 4-1.

The 4-2-1 setup features 4 individual pipes leading from the engine which go to 2 pipes and finally 1 pipe leading to the catalytic converter. This setup is designed to improve low end torque. see pic 2

The 4-1 design features 4 pipes which go straight into 1 pipe going to the cat. This improves mid to high end power. see pic 1

When buying a header, remember to look for one with short pipes of a large diameter. Long pipes of a short diameter give better fuel economy and a bit easier drivability.

sly.gif Thanks Terence, you know what's on my mind har.... laugh.gif

Where have you been?? Hoping to see you to give more advise thumbsup.gif

Toying with the idea of Supersprint extractor, it's a 4-2-1 system.

Not sure about the 'potential gain' vs $$$$, so asking around to gather some more information.

Don't want to swear by the product to say it's good juz because we had spend $$$ on it, hope to hear some objective views first scholar.gif

So how........for a stock unit, is it worth the $$$ and trouble ???

Which one should go first? Extractor or rear box ???

Hi Mel,

have been busy with work...and abit sick..so dare not go to crowded places and meet ppl hehee....

well, For a proper exhaust system, a full exhaust system would be a good way to go...at least it is 'properly' tuned by the manufacturer. Coz matching of all the exhaust components might not be a easy thing to do

Last time in the UNI, we used to toy around modifying exhaust system, adjusting diameters, length of pipes and difference joints etc to increase HP with a computer simulation software, real fun!!! [thumbsup]

probably you would like to do a before and after dyno test to justify the power increase and the $$$ spent.

but then for a NA car, dont expect a huge jump in HP....probably better drivability would be a more expected return...
