Hi guys. Need your views.

I'm looking for 40K car, Hatchback, manual (basic no CVVT or anything fancy), 1.5l or below.

Only options I've come up with is either a Rio 1.4 or Aveo5 1.4

Rio 1.4 OMV $9.7K C&C int 3.08%

Aveo OMV $9.3K StarAuto 3.25%

Interest rate don't matter much actually, as I'm only going for 4 yrs loan.

Care to comment/compare on the 2 models please.

Feel free to suggest any other models that I've not listed here.

Thanks.

having test drove both(since they were too under my consideration then), here's my take.

RIO - technological transfer from Hyundai resulted in this very affordable and efficient car. Engine and Interior exactly the same as Hyundai Verna

Nice 2006 update, sporty and spacious

Heavier body

Good insulation

smooth transition

Pretty decent FC

Love or hate affair with the new interior (black and cream color)

C&C servicing (dunno consider good or bad...)

Lack of safety features like ABS and airbags

Lack of "freebies" from SE (subjective)

Color matching of chasis with interior might be a problem due to the duo tone interior.

Limited colors available now. Next shipment in December.

AVEO - Sporty American brand, European Engine and Korean-Made car.

Strong engine (Opel engine)

Sporty look (car come with spoiler already)

ABS and EBD braking system

Nice "rounded" Dashboard design

Very nice colors available

Can compare Alpine motor and StarAuto offers to decide on best deal

Noisy ride

Not as good FC

Soft body metal which dents easily

hope this is helpful

Go for the Rio, you'll love it in no time at all. Only advice is to upgrade the tires to a wider profile: 195/55/R15. You'll love just how sweet it handles and how quiet it is. I'm driving a 1.4L Rio Manual and the car never ceases to put a smile on my face. You'll be surprised at the quietness and interior space despite it looking like a extremely cramped small car. Even the boot is deceiving big too, with folding rear seats offering owners loading flexibility should the need ever present itself.

Understeering is to be expected from a front wheel drive (FWD) car, but with a strut bar installed, wider performance tyres fitted and pumped up, the Rio handles amazingly well for a simple transport machinery. I've just gone past 12,000km and have been consistently getting anywhere between 12.8 - 13.5km/l (70% highway, 30% city). I usually rev up to 3,000 for 1st and 2nd gear to get to speed faster.

1st gear has enough torque to move the car from stand still but the range is limited. You'll love the acceleration of the car when gear is between 2nd and 4th. Like most low revving engines, the Kia Rio is tuned towards city driving conditions. As such, you'll find the engine's upper powerband lacking somewhat in the GO department. Don't get me wrong, the sporty looking Rio can easily do speeds of up to 140km/h but acceleration to speeds beyond that will take a long while with lots of engine roar at 4,000RPM. It has no problem keeping pace with traffic on expressways even with 2 passengers on board.

i'd take the Rio over the Aveo anytime. New aveo FC sucks big time. a friend of mine is only getting 11km/l. thats what i get in my 2.0 car!

heard that Rio is the best kia hatchback. it has that European styling and drives well. it's a simple and fun to drive car.

other options that you might want to consider (a point A to B car) would be the Toyota Vios(from 46K), Suzuki Liana 1.3 H/B(from 48K) and all new Proton Satria Neo H/B (from 48K)

i second the rio for a 4 yr lifespan.

it should be fine.

if looking for more quality and reliability then the liana hatch would be fine as well.

if u really into egg shape, can look into verna. [:p]
