Lexus IS250 = top end Jap car, very value for money. Fullstop.

MercC180 = If latest 07 model, thumbs up, if old model forget it

Audi 1.8T = Great build, superb feel but interior super outdated.

My choice? Audi 1.8T

Hi Throttle, when u mean mean surperb feel, you mean the handling?

Whats the main thing that won you over for the 1.8T?

I was served well and offered a test drive almost instantly by the service staff despite looking torned and tattered in a baseball cap, bermudas and t-shirt. (OK I drove up in another conti car, maybe thats why)

The Sale Person didnt push sales like the usual ones you find and sounded professional.

Service factors aside, the winning factor was of course the car itself.

IT was responsive, had little turbo lag with silky smooth tranny, great ergonomics and handsome styling. Build quality is solid. (for people who think Lexus is damn solid, they dont know much about the premium Contis, that said, i dont mean that Lexus is no good.)

It mentioned in the spec that A4 1.8T is using 7 speed, Continuously variable multitronic, is it the same as the CVT that you guys mentioned? or it is better transmission?

But to me, the old model and new model more or less the same. While I agree that aesthetics has changed a lot, it's still the same M271 engine. And the C-class is WAY TOOOOOO overpriced. $156k for a 1.8L C200! Goodness.

[jawdrop]

I will get the Audi 1.8T or Lexus IS250 anytime. But my personal preference go to the IS250 cos A4 design somewhat very dated to me.

Multitronic is the regd trade mark of Audi for their CVT which uses metal chains instead of belts. CVT has come a long way since it first used in vehicles. Other brands too have improved through out the years and now use in higher powered cars. Which is better is very subjective unless you've driven all the CVT cars. But one thing for sure, the Audi's M'tronic is quite smooth once it gets going. Only at the start, it seems reluctant to move for a few seconds. Maybe that is inherent in all CVTs. Cheers!

I must say the CVT Multitronic in the A6 is pretty good, tried it some months back, choice of three modes which is great. Only thing is the step off, other than that..i think it works pretty well

Test drove it already. Yup agreed that cabin space is bigger. Even the interior is MUCH better. But engine is still rough. And definitely not worth its price tag.

does it mean metal chain cvts are more lasting?

It all depends on the user. If both are used and abused the same ways, it certainly would last longer than belt-cvts. BTW, this is my 2nd CVT-car. Drove the 1st one for 3 years without any problems from the belted CVT but much nosier than the current one. Cheers!

I think 156k price is a bit high but still okay if you consider it's ex-model and BMW 3-series prices.

Note that 156k is "AvantGarde sport package" model. If go for "Elegance" model, it is cheaper... sorry, never ask the price as I am not interested [:p][laugh]

From my experience, I could say German cars have better interior quality than Jap cars for executive and luxury model in most cases [thumbsup].

You should consider the branding and cosmetic appeal as well... because these are values.

Many ppl still buy I-pod even Creative MP3 is cheaper, more compact with better features...

Many ladies still own LV and Gucci even there are other cheaper brands with similar quality... [:)]

Many guys still wear Oakley even their glasses are generally more expensive than other brands.
