Lufu 1st Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 I just had my car's cambelt replaced. Then it struck me, does cambelt and timing belt means the same thing? When I open up the bonnet, I can see a belt there, it's the same old belt leh! Where got replace? Is cambelt visible just by opening the bonnet? ↡ Advertisement

Lolex Neutral Newbie October 25, 2006 Share October 25, 2006 that's the fan-belt, which is used to drive the alternator & air-con compressor. The timing-belt or chain is usually protected by a cover at one end of the engine. The timing belt is driven by the crankshaft, which in turn drive the camshaft. Adawang 1st Gear October 25, 2006 Share October 25, 2006 The timing belt cannot be seen as it is usually enclosed in the timing belt cover. This is usual. I have not seen exposed ones Anybody own cars that has got no timing belt cover
Dumb 4th Gear October 25, 2006 Share October 25, 2006 Can't tell from the pic. Looks like alternator belt. As far as I know, there is a cover over the timing belt and you can see it clearly without removing the cover. Usually, if you have to change timing belt, it better to change all other belts.
