Keithpapa Neutral Newbie February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 but altis more ex leh. Lancer more sporty & spacious yet selling cheap. of course, lancer engine loses to vvti engine, but the overall package is attractive. Upfront savings can be used for petrol & other car expenses. Finally, a non-toyota car topping this month's sales chart! I will say that is good C&C move. Make Lancer the cheapest Jap car available in SG. ↡ Advertisement
Redboy 1st Gear February 28, 2007 Share February 28, 2007 (edited) refinement is how one feel & hear from the engine when step on accelerator, so it's hard to describe. ok lar. unrefined like ball rolling on uneven surface. though lancer is smooth & comfy, I find the drag irritating, as in when I need to pick up speed fast, the engine takes a while before responding. Keithpapa Neutral Newbie March 2, 2007 Share March 2, 2007 That is waht I meant. So irritating especially going up the slope of Sheare bridge. Altis and vios can climb up quite ok compared to Lancer. The engine like out of breath. I need to go that way everyday and it is sort of irritate me even more. (BTW, I drove my bro's Lancer for 3 months while waiting for my vios. ) Engine noise for vios and Lancer is quite loud compared to altis. My bro, who just sold his Lancer, also feedback similar review. In fact, he is very surprise that Atlis is quite smooth on pick up. He still cannot stand Thai made though. Theoldjaffa Hypersonic March 3, 2007 Share March 3, 2007 i don't have difficulty climbing up Sheare's bridge leh, its quite effortless actually. no "gear hunting" syndrome found in autoboxes. yah lancer engine insulation is very bad.. altis is quieter. lancer is the most value for $$ japanese car in its class now, altis is more comfortable, more refined but build quality is suspect. my father-in-law's altis feels flimsy, especially the doors.
Ktyk Neutral Newbie March 3, 2007 Share March 3, 2007 hi, just wondering what does CTV stands off?
Zealot Neutral Newbie March 3, 2007 Share March 3, 2007 i think you are referring to CVT or CTV., CVT stands for continuously variable transmission. a vehicle transmission providing an infinite number of possible ratios. good for FC and smooth auto gear changes, but torque and power is lacking. Chembeng Neutral Newbie March 3, 2007 Share March 3, 2007 CTV i dunno. But CVT is "Continuously Variable Transmission". Google or Wikipedia it for more details.
Kanchelsk 2nd Gear March 3, 2007 Share March 3, 2007 i dun hav problem climbin sheares bridge.. maybe ur air filter never clean... or with the sponge still attached... tear away the sponge... ur accelerator will feel better... without the out of breathe feelin... Boxster 2nd Gear March 4, 2007 Share March 4, 2007 Any one driving lancer CVT for more than 2 yrs? How is this transmission given any problems? Can please let me know what is the CVT maintanence in the owners manual? Thanks
Vesfreq Neutral Newbie March 5, 2007 Share March 5, 2007 I don't have that prob. Driving a manual lancer. Maybe because no passenger most of the time.
Vesfreq Neutral Newbie March 5, 2007 Share March 5, 2007 CVT lancer pick up not great. Refined engine? I drove other rides before. Lancer engine is just ok, but I wouldn't say refine. Whichever car you see, the most important is your right foot. FC good or not, its still ur driving style. Lancer can hit 10km/l man.... If you want to buy sylphy, top up 7-8k for the civic 1.6. lol
Toyo 1st Gear March 5, 2007 Share March 5, 2007 my colleage used to drive one GDI CVT model for 5 years before he scrap it recently. clocked 100+K, according to him, CVT no problem. maintenance shld be the same for all auto gearbox, change the CVTF every 40k

The existing lancer engine is old tech, that's why it cannot fight with vvti in vios or altis. But of course, lancer is cheaper, so you cannot complain much on performance. Another thing is, the test drive routes for lancer doesn't have steep slopes like sheares bridge for customers to try out.
Redboy 1st Gear March 5, 2007 Share March 5, 2007 refined is subjective. For my expectations,it is refined enough. but then again, for cars in price range of lancer, how refined can one expect? agree that FC is dependant on right foot & driving patterns. Many ppl still have perception that mz3, conti & kor are drinkers. Actually, some of them can achieve good FC as well, if u adopt more FC-friendly driving styles. Dun tell me honda, toyota still can get good FC if whacked daily? actually, I was tempted to go for civic, but my head took over. Besides, the civic 1.6 is lacking in many features & yet I have to pay 70K. maybe in future when civic price is more reasonable, then will consider. Waiting to test drive my bro's M6. I do agree that the stupid door alignment for altis is . Lancer is cheaper giving it's low OMV (4k lower than altis/M3 which translate to additional 10k in car price). I see value if C&C market the lancer(A) below 40k. It is new car at that time. I was referring to the steep climb from ophir road to sheare bridge. Speed drop to 50 to 70 range by the time I reached the top (+ very noisy engine) compared to 80-90 for Toyota cars. Anyway, that lancer has been sold off already. My bro cannot resist the temptation of 69k M6 and he does not want and recommend Mit anymore. Enjoy your ride.
