Ronnie Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 u need to know the year of manufacture... typically oils can keep 2-3 yrs (dun quote me) but as time passes, the technology to produce oils improves, and the additives differ even on the same oil... so your old oil may not perform as 'good' as newer oils... ↡ Advertisement
Ronnie Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 (edited) How long you hold the 6k? 20min? a couple of seconds? If it is just for a short while, you don't even need thicker oil. just curious, how about 4.5-5k RPM for about half a minute for about 10-20 times over an hour journey per normal day. will a thicker oil be better? Kelpie 2nd Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 I notice the noise comes around after 5000km. Most of my mileage covered was city driving and it could be the apexi power intake that lets contaminant in for combustion I'm curious to know how bad would the impact of aftermarket air-intake system have on the engine. Assuming the SI reading is good, it should not be the case. Apexi sounds like an expensive brand to me . Regards,
Genie47 1st Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Wow 4.5-5k 10-20 times a day?! Actually makes not difference. The oil doesn't get super hot for that period of time. Maybe a 10W30 will do fine. 5W40 or 0W40 will also do well.
Genie47 1st Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Doubt it will be at that price. The PP EF (European Formula) is different from the regular PP at 10W30 and 5W30 grades. They didn't bring these in. The PP EF doesn't use the cheaper high tech EOP basestock.
Gh05tss Neutral Newbie October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Those I see them selling in a bad of 4 x 1L, will go and double check cos I remember it 5w40 oil
Genie47 1st Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Definitely the PP EF. I saw it before too.

Genie47 1st Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Performance is like any 5W40. Pretty good value buy if it can be bought at the price you stated.

Genie47 1st Gear October 24, 2006 Share October 24, 2006 Any engine compartment will take 4hrs to cool off. Even tires need 4hrs to cool off. You can make your car run cooler with a 10W30. Problem is this. Kinda hard to find a 10W30. Unless you go for a dino 10W30, Chevron Supreme is up your alley. 500ppm of moly goodness. Pretty good basestock too with their Isosyn (Group II+) If you are raring for a 5W40, check with Furrynadz. He'll sing about SS9k. ↡ Advertisement
