The B62C is the best selling Helix speakers ever and now is version 3 B62C.3.

The HSK165 is at least 2 levels higher than the B62c.2 and is far more refined.

The price should be much higher too.

Haha yes....but much as different brands are really subjective, I thk these days most HU can drive a component on its own n will still be a noticeable upgrade over stock.
And this is usually shiok enough for some drivers . 🙂

That's exactly right.

If people didn't want to spend a lot just change the speakers.

The head unit can drive these speakers without an amp.

The Hertz Uno K165 has a very high sensitivity of 93.5

and the Helix F63C has 3 Ohms impedance making the amp drive it with more power.

People can consider these easy to drive speakers for a simple upgrade.

I spend thousands of dollars to learn car audio and after spending thousands the lesson I learn is you don't have to spend thousands to get fantastic sound.

You can have a high end sound with a really low budget.

The first lesson I learn is putting speakers in the door is the dumbest idea ever.

Speaker designers that design speakers for doors don't have a clue about car audio.

When you go to an audiophile's house and listen to their ultra high end setup you always see the speakers in front, one on the left, one on the right, both at ear level.

I have never been to anyone's house and seen a speaker next to someone's left knee and the other speaker aiming at their right knee.

Why? Its the worse place to put a speaker.

So its very simple to get great sound you put speakers in front of you on the dash board facing out as close to people's head as possible.

The second lesson I learn is to get great sound is get the mid range right.

People spend thousands on Beryllium tweeters when the soul and emotion of the music is all in the mid range and to get a good mid range is really cheap.

The human hearing is the most sensitive at 3,000 Hz exactly smack in the middle of the mid range.

And the worse place to cross over the woofer and tweeter in a typical 2 way component set is 3,000 Hz.

Our hearing most sensitive at 3k Hz will pick up the crossover as distortion so you feel the music is not so natural and not quite right.

Unfortunately most 2 way 6.5 inch can only play up to 2k Hz plus and most tweeters can only play down to about 3k Hz.

So there is always a gap between woofer playing to 2k plus and the tweeter coming in at 3k.

Also the woofer playing at 2k plus is at the limits of its ability and will start distorting. Same with the tweeter trying to play at 3k or below will also introduce distortion and the distortion makes the music sound bad.

Now there are tweeters that can play at 2k Hz but they are very expensive because they need very exotic materials and a lot of engineering expertise.

So how to get great sound at a low budget?

Very simple get the mid range right and don't buy amps.

Most head units have 50 x 4 power and that is 18 - 22 RMS.

20 RMS is all you need to get the mid range right.

To get the mid range right you need 3.5 inch or 4 inch speakers in pods on the dash facing out. Not tweeters sitting on the dash facing the roof.

Now speakers are only expensive when they have to play beyond their normal range. Like a tweeter that go very low and a woofer that needs to play very high.

A 3.5 inch mid range that can play 100 Hz to 10k Hz is cheap. Like the Cello below that only needs 20 watts RMS.

So 100 Hz to 10k Hz is taken care of including no cross over at that critical 3k Hz that is so sensitive to our hearing. No crossover, no distortion, music that flows and feel natural.

Most cars come with 4 door speakers and a cheap head unit with 50 x 4 PMPO.

Use the head unit to drive the mid range and use the original door speakers to fill in the bass and treble.

Most cars are designed to maximise the bass and treble of the awful cheap door speakers.

If budget permits then get some passive 3 way crossovers and cross the bass to the door speakers, the mids to the mid range and the highs to the tweeter you need to buy. Can buy cheap tweeters as they just need to play the very high notes. Nice to have a bit of the ting ting sound to your music.

When people hear the ting ting sounds they always say a lot of detail and things they never heard before in songs they know very well.

Lastly if the itch is still there and you have the funds add a sub. The sub only need to play below 100 Hz or even better below 50 or 60 Hz. Cheap subs that don't need to play above 100 Hz also have less distortion because we are not pushing it to its extreme limits that creates distortion and makes the music sound bad.

Home audio concept in a car.

Mid range and tweeters are very directional while bass is non directional.

So subs can put anywhere but mid range and tweeter must be front left and front right just like home hifi.
