Seanboi 1st Gear October 5, 2006 Share October 5, 2006 Closed pod is a pod with a Heat shield. Open pod is just like mushroom like that. Breathe in all e hot air from e engine bay.

Mzrmazda3 6th Gear October 5, 2006 Share October 5, 2006 Yes The heat shield is to minimise the open pod filter from sucking in excessive hot air

Vdubber98 Neutral Newbie October 7, 2006 Share October 7, 2006 (edited) My ride is a New Ford Focus, 2.0L (I live in Shanghai now) And I replaced my stock filter with a Simota (open pod)after running in my ride at 5000km. I should say that I get significant gain in mid to high range rpm while it suffer a bit at the low end. When I gas it above 3500rpm u can really hear the air being sucked in loud. Shop that sold me claim about 10HP gain. But I cant say for sure. I've attached a pic here to show that even with this open setup, it does come with a heat shield. Material is not real carbon, just the skin layer, inside is still fiber glass I think. I've been running this setup for three months now but after recent oil change (10,000km) I must say that the oil comes out really black. I'm having doubt now bout this filter. In my own opinion, I think Taiwan filter's quality is not as good as a K&N or the BMC CDA type filter. I'm now looking for a ITG tri-foam type filter. Can any kind forumers here tell me where can I find one in Sillypore? Edited October 7, 2006 by Vdubber98

Dada Neutral Newbie October 9, 2006 Share October 9, 2006 It's the same as Simot@ but it's the pioneer in this product. From what I heard Simot@ is a 'clone' of the BMC CDA(carbon dynamic airbox). U can check out this website for more info on BMC CDA. I'm not a promoter or doing any sales for BMC. I juz would like to find out more feeback from other users as well... ↡ Advertisement
