Conservative Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 You know, everytime I see Schumi win, I'm amazed. No doubt he's flawles, seldom makes mistakes, but luck seems to be on his side everytime. eg. in China, Alonso in the lead had pit-stop cxxk-up costing him 10 seconds or something, then yellow flag came on just about the right time for Schumi's pit stop. And people ahead of him keep falling out due to other reasons like Kimi with engine failure etc etc Or maybe it just seems that way, perfect engine, planning, strategy etc. Makes F1 interesting when so many things affect the outcome, but yet frustrating when you dont want him to win Anyone feels that way ? ↡ Advertisement

Decibel Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 I feel the same way you do. He's the reason I don't watch F1 as much as I'd like
Bommii Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 7 times world champion actually. For me he is the best driver in the world and only reason why i watch F1. Everyone has their own share of luck/bad luck
Ahren Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 Haha.. I am a Ferrari fan team supporter. My favourite driver is Kimi so 2007 will be a great season to watch, with Kimi taking Michael seat. But no doubts, Schumi is good because using Bridgestone tyres to win the Shanghai grand prix... u cant fault him on that. His records will stand for a long long time. Ahren Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 Yeah man, looking at his records... Dun think luck can make him a 7 times world champion. With his results, he is consider one of the best driver in his era.
Sillymonkey October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 there is a lot of money involved in this sport. the number of possibilities and outcomes are endless. and there are people who think that there are not only conspiracy theories, but also a lot of under-the-table money in this sport. at the beginning of last season when F1 viewership was on a downward spiral and losing its appeal, miraculously alonso became the all-conquering driver and won the championship. this season, on the back of schumi's retirement and to bank on the sentiments of viewers, schumi makes up a huge point deficit and is now on exactly the same points of alonso. with only 2 races to go. what could be more dramatic? even j k rowling couldn't spin a fairy-tale script better than that! Mineral Clutched October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 ferrari won because they can offer the better package, winning F1 is the combination of "driver+ constructor technology+team support+ and of ocurse the Money$$$". last but not least like you said, it also needs a little bit of luck! Biccat Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 He isn't a 7-time world champion just on luck alone. Love or hate him, he is simply the best driver in this era. The weather and pit-stop might have played out in his favour but it also involved doing the right things at the right time which unfortunately Alonzo and company did not. Bommii Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 "The weather and pit-stop might have played out in his favour but it also involved doing the right things at the right time which unfortunately Alonzo and company did not." Well said Shangai showed Alono's inexperience, he spoiled his front tyres too soon by putting flying laps in the start, hence requiring him to change his tyres, but Schumi was using his mind and waiting for the right moment. Ahren Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 Actually kinda wondering why Renault din change the rear tyres except for Alonso's front tyres, since he is already schedule to replace his tyres, either u change it or u dun change at all. I was juz wondering...
Conservative Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Author Share October 3, 2006 OK, agree with u guys luck is only a small part but somehow things keep falling into place for him. Also, is Ferrari the Chelsea of F1 ? ie. using money to buy the best teams, the best technology, best drivers ?
Ecaf Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 that aside, did u guys notice one of the team pit crew members (if i'm not wrong the williams team) got hit by his team's car when it came in to pit? gosh he just rolled over to the side, continued changing the front tyre, then rolled in pain again after the car sped off.. hope he's ok
Biccat Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 Things keep falling into place for him cos he worked for it. Remember that his first 4 championship titles, 2 for Benetton and 2 for Ferrari were achieved with cars inferior to the competition at that time. When he came over to Ferrari, he was able to rally everybody to work together as a team. That he was offered the best money and the best car that Ferrari could afford was not a coincidence. It is a working relationship build up over the years.
Sillymonkey October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 yes. that is a very weird decision not to change the rear tyres. and it is this weird decision that cost alonso the race according to those F1 experts. and after he changed his rear tyres he was easily the fastest driver at the circuit again, virtually flying through the laps. under-the-table dealings? or some other conspiracy theory? whatever the reason, in my opinion for this particular race, alonso was the faster driver. but schumi had the better management and pit crew. Bommii Neutral Newbie October 3, 2006 Share October 3, 2006 you got this wrong, Alonso didnt lose because he didnt change his rear, he lost because he changed his front...during the first stop nobody changed their tyres, Schumi didnt, neither did fisicella. Alonso changed his front because its too worn out during his first stint, he didnt protect his tyres, as he changed to new intermediate in the front he couldnt get the grip with the deeper grooves on the new intermediates. It took him around 9 laps to loose the grooves, by the time he lost 2 places. ↡ Advertisement
