Civic FD2.0 and Mazda 3 SP20 both are purely made in Japan, both are low end luxurious sedan, and Mazda 3 SP20 is $10k+ cheaper than Civic FD2.0, but Singaporean still select Civic FD2.0 over Mazda 3 SP20 [confused][confused]

Personally, i feel that Civic FD2.0 is bigger and interior also looks [thumbsup] Furthermore, i Vtec is definately much [thumbsup] as compared to Mazda SP20's MZR VVT Engine [:p] Most importantly to me is that Civic FD2.0 has got manual version [sly]

While shopping for a car 2 yrs back, the Mz3 1.6L was one of my fav on the list as it handles superbly. The only downside is the power, or lack of, due to the weight of the car. Interior quality and ambience i dare say is the best in its class, and personally prefers it over the ED interior (which seems arcade looking to me).

With the release of the 2.0L engine locally, now we have a reasonable powered engine mated to a fantastic chassis and great handling and excellent design and package, I have no doubt I will definitely get the Mz3 over the Civic anytime. Yes, some will argue the Civic has 5spd transmission over the Mz3 4 spd, but the gear ratios of the Mz3 2.0SP is just abt right for me, so no issues.

As for the px difference of $10k, its not a consideration for me for choosing the Mz3. If they are px the same, I will still choose the Mz3. But to others, this $10k difference is a sweet bonus [thumbsup] which I will also gladly pocket.

Though with diff in $$, the thread didn't put with option for FD as all of the above. That's the point of some takers.

Somehow, it's $$ that drive to decision.

Yes...the availability of Manual Transmission really gives Honda an edge...Mazda marketting should have foreseen this and provided a Manual version for the more adventurous buyers...

The Mazda 3 platform is to small/short for a 2.0L.

Interior of the Mazda3 is cramp especially the rear seats, I also notice for the 4-door saloon does not have a exhaust muffler, The exhaust pipe is only secured with a u-bolt. I dunno about the 5-door.

Yes b4 civic FD is launch the Mazda3 is the most attractive in its class.
