Vicom Annual Car Inspection

Just went for 9th year inspection, was worried my headlight will fail due to misalignment, i already did my best to lower the alignment but i guess its not perfect. Old car already, with some minor oil leakage, brakes also not change for sometime, but manage to pass the brake and undercarriage test.

As expected the headlight test shows fail, however still pass in the overall. So long as its stock bulb and not serious misalignment (such as high beam), shld be able to pass with ease.

Went for VICOM inspection last year and the lighting test showed "fail", but the inspector said as long as is stock headlights, they are ok with it.

LED reverse lights can pass? OK with LTA?

The inspection centre dont check that during the biannual inspection. Also on the road, if you dont reverse, LTA will not see it. [laugh]

If I send a vehicle with modded emission parts to vicom and do not pass, all I need to do is to send to workshop to correct it and resend for checks correct? No Lta involvement right?

I am not sure for the emission portion fail, but just this year when having my car bi-annual inspection they discovered my rear brakes are not biting evenly both sides. One side is weaker, so overall fail.

I got it checked at my mechanics and it was a leaking (very slight leakage kind, brake fluid level still maintaining) brake cylinder, so both rear brakes cylinder and shoes replaced. The re-test was FOC, finally passed.

Why don't you replace/loan with original parts and save the hassle of going for re-inspection.

Thanks for your replies.

I was thinking go already, know what fail then one shot go ws. I'm concerned about whether her failing for emission mods will have any complication from lta.

Generally no implications with LTA cos Vicom just earn money with every inspection done. Anyway... just go with the correct setting and save some money for petrol lah. No point gambling knowing that you stand to lose.

So for COE renewed cars, when will the first vehicle inspection take place?

Is it on the Renewed date + 1 year? Or will you need to do the inspection first before the new 10 year COE take place?

The former is correct. After the inspection on the 9th year, the next inspection will take place on the 11th year. Subsequently the inspection will have to be done annually.

I have always wondered.  How thorough is the VICOM inspection?

If my car passes the inspection, can I assume  that the car is mechanically sound and there is no major safety issue with the car?

Road tax renewal on the conveyor belt it take less than 5 minutes to inspect the whole car. I doubt i would want to put my safety and decision on that 5 minutes.

If I remember there is another type of check at vicom where buyer of resales bring their ride for inspection. Maybe such inspection abit more thorough. Not sure though.

Anyone knows why Vicom never give me certificate? The person just said passed. But no certificate.

Go online where to check my car inspection status?
