Yeah, no harm in this method. Just need to spend $$$ on labour + filter (optional) and time to go down to WS if after 5000km the engine feels rough or sluggish.

We did this comparison back then, taking average cost of an OC. 

a) Engine oil X $30 (4L), filter $10, labour $30 = $70 x 2 = $140 for 10,000km. If skip oil filter during 2nd OC, then minus $10 = $130. Extra time spent, maybe 1-2 hours depending on WS. 

b) Engine oil Y $70 (4L), filter $10, labour $30 = $110 for 10,000km
