Fortress Clutched September 10, 2006 Share September 10, 2006 (edited) I will brake to get the guy behind to pay for my rear end, been there and done that. It is just mad to tail gate and it is mainly lack of power in that car that prevent it from over taking Edited September 10, 2006 by Fortress
Carndablues Clutched September 10, 2006 Share September 10, 2006 Sometimes, you can't prevent idiots from tailgating, what you can do is to prevent any accidents from occuring by keeping the appropriate safety distance of 2 seconds from the car in front so that you minimise the incidents of having to emergency brake. Even if they hit you from the rear and you can claim from their insurance, it's still a hassle to you. You have to report to Idac, file reports with your insurance, send your car to the workshop, and depending on your insurance, you may be without a car! The best way is to change lanes, but I have been tailgated while I was in the left lane and the right lane was empty, in which case I just apply the first technique of ample safety distance. Nemo6089 1st Gear September 10, 2006 Share September 10, 2006 Good advice Carndablues, Most of the time when you tap the brakes and/or slow down further, the tailgater will swerve right or left to overtake you. All taxi drivers do that without fail because they cannot drive slow. And when reaching a traffic junction, do the same because most taxi and lorry driver never stop at the stop line. Tap the brake a few times to indicate to them that you are stopping. Never travel to the stop line and then just stop to check for traffic before you filter out, they will surely ram your arse. Shern25 2nd Gear September 10, 2006 Share September 10, 2006 If I am in first lane (fastest lane), I will change lane to let him past, probably he has some very urgent matters to attend to. But if I am in 2nd lane, I will just slow down and let him decide for himself what to do.
Nazaki Clutched September 10, 2006 Share September 10, 2006 We tailgate is because you are too slow. If you can't keep up with the pace, pls shift over the the left lane. If left lane is really too crowded, just keep going till u find a slot to cut into the left lane. Remember the golden expressway rule. Right lane is for overtaking. Even if you are travelling at already 120kph, and someone is travelling at 130kph.. you still have to let him pass.

Limitedspeed Neutral Newbie September 10, 2006 Share September 10, 2006 Don't looked at the rear mirror. If there be a space on the left, please keep left as you may unknowingly be a road hogger. Sometimes, the car that's said to be tailgating you may be using force momentum as the car is rolling in and towards your direction and the driver do not wish to brake to keep the distance but would not pushed the car further and thus the distance is kept. Just be patient give them some time to react and not get too sensitive that other drivers necessary want to tailgate you
Quantum 5th Gear September 10, 2006 Share September 10, 2006 1. don't leave too big gap from front car, lets say less than 3 cars distance to front car. 2. if your front road is clear, don't drive under speed limit, lets say speed limit is 90km/h in SG main E-way, you should drive at 90~95km/h in clear road. 3. if you obey above 2 points, even if you are tailgated, just ignore it, let him find chance to overtake you, you don't have the responsibility to give way to him.
