Trex101 3rd Gear September 4, 2006 Share September 4, 2006 I will just run on 2nd gear, no problem at all. For downshift, think of it as additional improve braking. I do sometime downshift to 2nd gear when going into very tight turn. No problem at all. 5th-->3rd(brake hard)-->2nd(before tight turn)--> accelerate out (rev just nice within power band)
Polkadots 2nd Gear September 4, 2006 Share September 4, 2006 (edited) Have you tried double declutching on the low gear (1st gear)? I used to use double declutch on my manual ride when I wanna drop from 5th to 3rd when negiotiating a corner fast. It'll give me smoother gear change and power thru the bend. However, I seldom do it on low gears eg. 1st or 2nd gear. It should give you smoother gear change and the power to pick up when the car in front speeds up but it takes quite some time to master especially the rev matching part. heard it'll extend the life of your manual transmission. Dumb 4th Gear September 4, 2006 Share September 4, 2006 Quote when slow down with 2nd gear , you can use 1/2 clutch and a bit fuel to give smooth movement ... but of course cannot apply to complete stop, still have to go back 1st gear Even complete stop, no need to enter G1, unless got to stop for sometime. At G2, just tap the gas and release clutch slowly.
Dumb 4th Gear September 4, 2006 Share September 4, 2006 Bro you r giving him racing tips when he still has to get use to gears and clutch in a jam situtation.
Vesfreq Neutral Newbie September 4, 2006 Share September 4, 2006 Use half clutch to minimise engine vibration. u have to get used to the car biting point 1st. Thats the interesting part about MT cars, cos it takes time to know how to get the car moving smoothly, unlike AT cars. For my lancer, I could be at gear 2, while under 20kph. But, have to do so with some half clutch. was talking with a pal about how uncomfortable it is to drive an AT. His comment was AT so addictive that once u get an AT, u will never go back to MT. No offense to any of the AT drivers. Next car will be a MT again, cos' it will be a performance car.
Weixiang_06 Clutched September 4, 2006 Author Share September 4, 2006 actually its not that... just that i tot half clutching, double clutching was bad.... i dun to race... lolz...
Weixiang_06 Clutched September 4, 2006 Author Share September 4, 2006 i am aware of the half clutch... its really helps, but worrie about whether will our clutch be worn out prematurely?
Weixiang_06 Clutched September 4, 2006 Author Share September 4, 2006 normally, assume you take good care of ur clutch, how long can it last u? 100k of mileage?
Dumb 4th Gear September 4, 2006 Share September 4, 2006 Don't worry. I have done 126,000 km without changing clutch. When I let it go, I can feel that the clutch is still in very gd condition.
Weixiang_06 Clutched September 4, 2006 Author Share September 4, 2006 wah, can last so long ah... okie then, then i dun hold back on half clutching in second gear... the double clutching seems good too
Landex Clutched September 4, 2006 Share September 4, 2006 Quote Some ppl will learn to overcome it naturally. Some will never. So just don't worry about it. Driving I feel.....sometimes is a kind of talent. Some have, some don't have. If you don't have this talent but want to solve this prob, then you need the technology called Automatic Transmission to help. If you have this talent naturally, within few weeks/months, you should know whats best to use, to suit your car. Different car, different method. ie, My gear 2, may vibrate at xx rpm, but yours may not. is important.
Cychiam Neutral Newbie September 4, 2006 Share September 4, 2006 (edited) If you are trying out double clutching, better start practising it at higher gear and downshifting 1 gear lower (not more than 1 e.g. 2 or more). Vesfreq Neutral Newbie September 5, 2006 Share September 5, 2006 No idea man. I'm into my first 11k on my present ride. Afaik, it will be quite difficult to hit 100k before u change ur ride. Given the current trend of car upgrading, every 3 years, people upgrade rides, its unlikely u will hit 100k, unless u bought a 2nd hand ride. ↡ Advertisement
