Nissy Neutral Newbie August 14, 2006 Share August 14, 2006 Yes! not every traffic rule is spelled out in the basic theory handbook...but our local book do have some points on overtaking from left. the problem is most of us don't read line by line... Elfenstar 3rd Gear August 14, 2006 Share August 14, 2006 (edited) That explains why traffic flow is better in melb even during peak hour since we're allowed to overtake on the left here. As boy put it... it because of co*k drivers that such a rule is in place. I would suggest you read the traffic regulations again, overtaking on the left in Melbourne is illegal! The traffic flow is better because road-hogging on the right lane on the freeways is illegal! I think you might want to read the rules again... sec 141(1)(a) states that no driver may overtake on the left unless the driver is on a multi lane road and the vehicle can be safely overtaken in a marked lane to the left of the vehicle. i.e. it means u can overtake on the left provided there is a lane on the left. also yes it is illegal to be on the right lane when not overtaking but my friend in the TMU has never summoned anyone for it in his 15yrs in the tmu. even when overtaking i've noticed that drivers in the right lane still move out if they see a faster vehicle approaching. Superblackbox Neutral Newbie August 14, 2006 Share August 14, 2006 Another reason is left lane is full of slow n big vehicles..if yur left view is block.. chance are when u wanna overtake. yur speed is high. Wht if u cant see and the speed is to high and one might Bang into a slower vehicle. Proably thts y fast vehicles on the right. slow on teh left.... ok this makes sense, esp when overtaking, one speeds up and when filtering, one slows down. ok i think now i get the first part.. me SLOW [/reply] no problem.. we share info and learn....rules are there to guide.. maybe nt true most of the time but at time we haf to bend rules also... depending on scenerio... Watwheels Supersonic August 16, 2006 Share August 16, 2006 notify the vehicle in front ========================== Think this refers to flashing your headlights or tooting your horn to get his attention. U'r only assuming. What if the driver in front mistakes your signals as to "get out of my way u'r hogging the lane"? That is possible. Yes?
Pisces69 6th Gear August 16, 2006 Share August 16, 2006 notify the vehicle in front ========================== Think this refers to flashing your headlights or tooting your horn to get his attention. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- U'r only assuming. What if the driver in front mistakes your signals as to "get out of my way u'r hogging the lane"? That is possible. Yes? ==================== I guess that is more likely here in SG as many of our drivers have a mentality. But I do it anyway to alert the front car if I need to get his attention. If he wants to fight with me cos I horned or flashed my lights at him, i'll just call the police & tell them there is a case of "road-rage" & come down quick. Lucien Neutral Newbie August 16, 2006 Share August 16, 2006 to overtake from left, u need the left lane to be relatively clear, zhuar u car at least a 2 car gap, then filter in to the right.
Sotong_kia Neutral Newbie August 16, 2006 Share August 16, 2006 Why is it dangerous and illegal? I admit I don't know why.. but since driving school never taught me, i suspect a number of people out there don't know either. the typical L-plater gets zero opportunity to overtake from the left. and thus driving instructors tend to miss out on this point. when one overtakes "safely" even on the left, why is it dangerous, assuming one signals n checks blind spot before doing so? I don't know about whether it is illegal. But there is a basic reason why, for right hand drive, overtaking is on the right. You can very easily see what is in front, but just moving out to the right a little bit.. If you overtake from left, your passenger will scream that there is a bike/car/obstruction, before you can even see it.. by that I mean, more than half of your vehicle has to be on the left lane/side/shoulder before you can see if the lane is clear... Boyboy 1st Gear August 16, 2006 Author Share August 16, 2006 to me, one or two quick flashes are not intimitading. but holding the high beam for 1 or 2 s is.. likewise for horn. anyone save for the densest cabby will feel it out on the roads.. but like pisces said, in singapore, people not perceptive but highly sensitive, may misunderstand good intentions ↡ Advertisement
