Lexl Neutral Newbie August 14, 2006 Share August 14, 2006 What's the interest in the colour of the oil? Fully synthetic base oil is colourless, additives are slightly yellowish-gold. The manufacturer simply adds colouring to get it whatever colour they want - we've seen oils in red, blue, green (including HKS). So a lighter green tint on this batch simply means they've added a little less colouring. No harm to the engine, but no additional benefit at the same time. No manufacturer of such coloured oils will ever claim any significance in the colouring in the TDS.

Genie47 1st Gear August 14, 2006 Share August 14, 2006 No, it shows they are willing to spend money to differentiate. The dye is the most expensive component in the oil.
Lexl Neutral Newbie August 15, 2006 Share August 15, 2006 Cost which we are paying for, but not enjoying any benefits of...that's why we end up with well known brands which sponsor F1, but consumers like us do not receive real value in the lubricant.java script: x() java script: x()
Genie47 1st Gear August 15, 2006 Share August 15, 2006 What Castrol wants to do is not in our control. Anyway, they are slowly removing the dyes in the oil as we have seen in Longtec which is golden syrup. But its a Castrol anyway, what's more the German Castrol. It already has value written all over it.
Gearoil 1st Gear August 16, 2006 Share August 16, 2006 Quote Just got my GC today, Made in Germany. batch number: M061526ATW18065 10:45 open it up and find that it's not green anymore but still have very slight green tint. Maybe becos on the label infront...they already highlighted very clearly that IT IS A EUROPEAN FORMULA And the Europeans are not GREEN..you know! Eng01170 Neutral Newbie August 16, 2006 Share August 16, 2006 Now here comes the million dollar question for both Genie and Trex101: Caompared to 30wt Redline Engine Oil, which one is better?
Trex101 3rd Gear August 16, 2006 Author Share August 16, 2006 (edited) The elfs would say their GC is the best while the Hardcore racer swear by Redline. No one can answer you that, ask that question in BITOG and you will divided the mobs into 2 camp. Edited August 16, 2006 by Trex101
Kelkel Neutral Newbie August 17, 2006 Share August 17, 2006 Hi Terence.. am into my 50K servicing now...what oil do you recommend for good fc and smooth journey..have been on ur RP last few times but now seems like schaeffear and castrol is coming in...cant seem to find ur website..whatz the web add ah??tks
Trex101 3rd Gear August 18, 2006 Author Share August 18, 2006 Hi Kelkel, at 50k mileage you can use anything below 30wt oil for best FC. The thinner you go, the better is the FC. Schaeffer is smooth & quiet during operation but more importantly it's value for money. Castrol Syntec 0w30 no need to say, it's like a Cult thing. Ppl is worshipping it like holy water, err... oil. From the rate it's going, i could be running out of stocks in the next 2-3 weeks.
Audiorook Neutral Newbie August 18, 2006 Share August 18, 2006 what about the new Castrol EDGE? Is that similar formulation?
Genie47 1st Gear August 18, 2006 Share August 18, 2006 Different. The technical specs on Edge and GC are completely different. There was a long drawn discussion in Autoworld. Apparently, GC and SLX-A3 are the same but Longtec, and the 0W30 Edge is not.
