Anyone has got this prob when slowing down and then start to step on the gas again, there is no acceleration at all and it seems like no air is coming in...unimpressed.gif and it will drag on for a while before it kicks in again... no prob when i switch off my air con though...

So I was wondering whether could the damage be:

1) air sensor

2) throttle body

3) air con compressor

No experience with this problem. Are you able to replicate this problem with the a/c compressor switched off but with the fan blowing?

A few other problems can also create this action,

a. Alternator dying

b. Over heating

c. Idling breeder line clocked

d. fuel pump dying

e. Fuel Filter is clocked

f. spark plugs fouling

g. high tension cables failing

Can you give more info, age of car, mileage and how and when it started.

Very likely throttle body dirty. Just go to your regular workshop and as them to clean for you. Quick fix is to spray some cleaner and then rev to clear. Drive a few days if no problen then go back and ask them to do a better job on cleaning the throtlle body.

The first step of spraying cleaner should not cost more then $20, if it is your regular workshop they might not charge you at all.

If not this then start changing from the cheapest item to the most expensive one. But I seriously think it is the throttle body.

Thanks for the list. Here are some info

Car age: 5.5 yrs old

Mileage: 103500

2 months back remove a CAI back to original filter box. Obit piggyback chip was not re-tuned back.sweatdrop.gif

It started suddenly last week when I was slowing down at an upslope and I tried to rev to pickup, and the rpm wasn't even moving up, stay as it is for a long while. When stop, I tried to accelerate again and it is not its usual self anymore. Only when i switched off my aircon, it came back to normal. It is very intermittent though....today it has not prob...hur.gif

Will drop by Servo tomorrow afternoon for some checkings...

Maybe resetting the ECU will help too..

Need to do it to my car soon....now it has been holding the gears a little longer.....

Have resolved my problem by Servo by replacing the speed sensor nod.gif

In fact my car was broken down twice on Nicoll Highway during National Day eve...all of the sudden during the jam, the car just shut the engine down, restarted and down again after 5 mins. And the 2nd time it won't restart easily and I need to step on the accelerator many times before it can start again. sweatdrop.gif

Thought its battery or alternator not charging....but to my suprise, speed sensor... unsure.gif

Car once again died on the road.... and this time round 1) throttle body choke with oil 2) water temperature sensor dizzy.gif as diagnose by CAG this time. Now my RPM hover above 800-900 instead of my previous 600-700 which when doing hard-braking, can drop below 500 which will rumble the engine and feels like its gonna went dead.

Well, hope 2nd time lucky...sweatdrop.gif

Speed Sensor failed? did the ABS light came on, which it should.

Did not come out though...Dennis use VAGtool to diagnose it as faulty. unsure.gif

And then Alex diagnose it as water temperature faulty using the same tool. unimpressed.gif

Looks like after 5 years old Octy start giving out all this sensors problem....

Ha..(reaction is for the former), I opted to believe the later(do not know him) as your car's fault is more likely. The mechanics today have forgotten how to diagnose a car using their head and feel.

FYI - many of these sensors tend to fail in our weather due to hardening of cables or dust. You might like to try to fiddle with the sensor first.

Yeah I believe too it should be the throttle body as he explains that during idling, we should have small gap at the butterfly entrance for some air to maintain the combustion. Mine was filled with oil and thus the engine died due to blockage intermittently. As for water temp sensor, he shows me the black pin on the green coloured sensor which he says is faulty and flagged out in his tool.

As for speed sensor, I find it hard to imagine the relation of failure to idling engine...rpm??

Speed sensor will cause the ABS light to come on and your brakes will feel softer.

Due to the Throttle body consists of 3 inlets for idling, cruising and acceleration. Either one of this is choke, at various stage the car will react, in most cases, idling is more likely due to the small diameter. No diagnositic tools exist in car to sense choking, only if you have a pressure difference guarge between the two ends will you find that, quite sure they ae not found in our cars.
