Singviet Neutral Newbie August 7, 2006 Share August 7, 2006 Its such happiness that Citroen franchise will be changing hands soon. Citroen aftersales service has been one of the worst in the industry. Still remember my family bought a Citroen XM in 1994 for over 220K and it was a real disaster. From the first month, the car started breaking down and the technicians couldn't rectify the problem. One incident that prompted us to complain direct to France HQ: The brake warning lights came on and we send the car in for repairs. After going in the workshop 4 times, the problem is still there. And they still have the cheek to charge us. Finally on the fifth time, we went in the workshop earlier to check on the car and we saw the technician cutting off the brake sensor wires. their answer was that since they cannot rectify the problem, they might as well cut off the wires so that the brake sensor lights will not be on. Just cut the wire off so that it'll not light up again???? What kinda repair is this??? Oh wow! At least Reanult is not that bad, as compared to Citroen.... Really scary to have such mechanics around... It'll pose a real danger should anything happen to the car... Not to mention to the occupants.... Lastly, it's by no mean cheap... Having paid such a princely sum for a car that was defected in such a short period of time... And with such bad servicing and repair job! Fondue Neutral Newbie August 7, 2006 Share August 7, 2006 (edited) We had the brake warning problem on the XM too, but towards the 7th - 8th year. Bought the car in 1990 when COE just started at 138k (COE was 5k then) and drove it for a full 10 yrs Hated it cos need to go workshop pretty often .... and towards the last 2 yrs, spend at least $500 every 2-3 months just on repairs for the hydralic and stuff !! Loved the car ... comfy, great styling, looks darn sleek when its parked with the sus down. Each time we went in the workshop, the bill will always be above $1k. For that 5 years, we spent more than 70K on repairs. Like what u said, its a love hate affair. The main problem with Citroen is the reliability, or more accurately the total lack of reliabilty. That is something that JC&C or any other dealer will not be able to address satisfactorily. I have owned several Citroens since the GS model and I speak from personal experience with the car not "hear-say". In short, all of them were very unreliable. I have already described the numerous problems that I had with Citroens in the MCF post on the Citroen C4. In fact, one German study rated the Citroen Xsara (model b4 C4) as 16 out of 20 for vehicle breakdowns. Bear in mind that this is a German study, done based on cars driven in Europe climate. In tropical climate, like S'pore the breakdowns will be even worse as the parts used in Citroen cars are not tropicalised. http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,350084,00.jpg The last 5 cars are: 16) Citroen Xsara 17) Fiat Brava 18) Renault Kangoo 19) Renault Megane and 20) Alfa Romeo 147.
