If some of the findings in Europe is correct, perhaps, many of us might have to come to our senses that we are wasting alot of $$$ for certain very bad tires with the "Made in Japan" inscription now.

Just called you and confirmed the next V12 shipment has arrived. Already book 4 pieces of 205/55R16 from ah siong liao.

Imagine Hankook V8 and V12 and Kumho KH11 and KU31 are running out of stock in recent weeks. So sad that most tire shops in Singapore are stocked of "Made in Japan" tires. Their persuasion can't swayed me from my once 20 years loyalty to "Made in Japan" anymore - enough of these crappy stuffs.

Another caution here is most "Made in Japan" tires in our local shops will soon be near end of the typical 3-year tire life all awaiting for many ignorant preys.

SPT or bfg

but take those with a pinch of salt

dz101 is better than bfg/spt yet scores lower

to angmo, pice is a factor, bfg and spt are dirt cheap

I noted tat BFG-GFS is graded better then F1 aysn n GS D3. Is it true? There are so much posts on Eagle F1 being better... but from the chart.. it does not seems so...

Must be carried away when so many tyre shops I called didn't keep stock of Korean tyres including Sin Hong Hwa and our all-can-get Pxh Hxng. For many weeks, couldn't find Hankook V8, V12 and Kumho KH11, KU31. Either the local dealers are patriotic to Japan, lower profit margin of Korean tyres or they are increasingly grapped by more people who know the better tyres.

As alternative, the shops always offered me those tires which were once my disappointments, particularly after paying so much for them. I always used switched from one Japanese tyre to another in the past and those disappointments I can still remember were with Aspec dB (always came with my new cars), ES100, T1R, GR80. Personally they were only slightly better than the cheaper models except dB which couldn't even stop faster than a 2-wheel bike and got me into accident. Its slippery downslope braking can be scary during rain at Takashimaya. Maybe others may not agree but again it's my personal experience.

I guess my expectation of these local favorites were too high after hearing so good about them and got rather disappointed after owning them. Probably they could have been over-rated and I was just naive to believe everything people say. Until I tried KU31 and was shocked for its consistent road holding, turn handling and low-noise that not many locals like to talk about. Best of all, they are priced as average low-end Japanese tyres but apparently could beat many of the more expensive tyres I would think.

Sometimes, over-rating a product might be unfairly doing great disfavour cos nobody will trust them anymore after trying if awareness in IT and globalisation is working. Perhaps, one good soul-searching question is how many owners of those hot favourites would buy the same tyre again.

could not agree wif u more bro [;)].For those who sang loudly for Jap tire, prolly they r comparing to the OEM tyre tat comes eif e car. I m on my 2nd set of KU31, mayb due to e 45 series profile 18", it seems rather noisy compared e previous 50 series 17". But make no mistake abt it, e grip is gd [thumbsup] n cuts water like knife thru butter

With my 16" KU31 at 50,000km, I can still listen to music soft enough even to answer my incoming handsfree. With my previous 30,000km GR80, gonna mute the music to answer handsfree. That might be a rough comparison.

Ironically with our kind of inconsistent road surfaces, quieter tyre can be irritating when noises randomly crop in over certain surface in-between smooth surfaces.

Side-trek abit...

Understand that oil is a key element in production and transportation of tyres.

A few months ago, tyre price was raised as crude oil price was high at ~US$150.

Now that crude oil price has dropped significantly, has the tyre price fallen back to its previous level?

Quite true some Korean tyres are taken very fast locally in recent years. Is all words of mouth than advertisements. That's why they are alot more affordable while can even be better than some more expensive Japanese tyres. It's worth considering for anyone who feels spending the extras is not getting any better.

Hope Sin Hong Hwa is more aggressive to persuade other retailers of non-Korean tyres to take in V8, V12, S1 and even bring in the premium luxury XQ. Binter might have problem because it is obliged to market many other makes. Maybe that's why Kumho seems even harder to find which is quite unfortunate.

Finally swopped my worn-out KU31 (still no stock) with V12. It is just quiet enough. Seems to feel faster pickup from its very firm road holding, better confidence in braking and quite forgiving even forgotten a few occasions to slow down during turn. Those road unevenness is noticeablly less pronouced now than with KU31 and less chassis protest when not stopping over small hump.

Don't be fooled by its sparse thread design typical of performance tyre. Hankook might have achieved the technologies in rubber-silica compound without the usual complicated fanciful tight-space threads commonly found in so-called quiet tyres. Perhaps, we are not too far from the era when we cannot anymore read the threads to tell tyre dB.

Robert - thanks for your recommendation.

I'm considering to change my tyres (205/55/15). Any takers on which model i should go for?

BFG vs Hankook K105 vs Kumho SPT

I think all 3 are very close in price range

Have you considered Federals? Very reasonable price and decent performance.

totally agree with you!

i have finally changed out my 2yr 35000km Brigestone Potenza G3 onto Hankook V8rs yesterday. the difference is ENORMOUS. i knew the G3 is noisy but i thought its more like my car is turning lousy with deteorating sound proofing. but instantly after the change to V8, i realise that the noise is 100% due to the tyre. i should have change out much ealier then i would not have to put up with the noise all these while.
