17 inch wheels on Aveo

Hi guys,

I have just installed 17 inch wheels on my aveo.

I was wondering if I change to lowering springs, how much lower will it get for front and rear?

I also wish to make my front wheels more A shape meaning to let the base protrude outwards for better stability. The rear is already A shape. But front seems rather parrellel. Is there anyway to make it A shape? I have friends telling me to change some camber or chamber kit (duno whats that). Is that possible?

Or should I add some spacer?

Does starAuto do this?

060104_emZ4_prv1.gif U R the 1st Aveo who's using 17" OZ (original) UltraLeggra [thumbsup]

let me have the honour to answer ur questions;

Q: I have friends telling me to change some camber or chamber kit

(duno whats that). Is that possible?

Ans: possible BUT a very complicated & expensive operation. U need a

very DEEP pocket for U to R&D (i mean trial & error to get the correct

chamber angle degree) & time wasted [sweatdrop]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Or should I add some spacer?

Ans: possible if the spacer thickness is not more than 3mm otherwise U

will experience wheel steering vibrates at certain speed and do consider

the danger if the spacer thickness above 5mm [angel]

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Does starAuto do this?

Ans: NOPE. they'll think U R [hur] and wasting their time.

First of all, congratulations on your beautiful 17" OZ wheels. You have must spent a fortune on them !

You should not use a spacer as it would make the wheel protrude too much outside the arch and ruin them when you bounce the vehicle over a hump.

The camber kit, I doubt, is available for the Aveo and like earlier mentioned, it is very expensive to trial & error the right profile.

Guess the only way around it, is to lower the suspension which result in a slight more A profile for the front wheel but don't expect it to be very A-ed by the springs. You may want to think about this because, I don't see much space for you to lower your car anymore without the wheel scrubbing the wheel arches during turns. Remember if you want the A shape profile on the front wheels, you will probably need to change your tires very often cause the inner scrub would be very much accelerated and these tires don't come cheap !

Cool man! Just saw the rims at Autobacs yesterday. Are they genuine OZ or, the OandZ rims?

For lowered springs, how much it drops depends on the model/specs of the springs. If you want control, get a coilover set.

Adjustment for toe-in allows faster turn-in to corners, and can be adjusted slightly w/o a camber kit. But note that your tyre wear will be faster.

Adding a spacer to the wheel basically extends the thread (or track), but will stress the suspension system. Alternatively, you can get wheels with a more -ve offset.

Don't think SA will do all these mods you mentioned.

It cost abt $400+ per rim. And these are real one. I think I saw at Autobac selling DZ or D2 if I never remember wrongly. Those are replica and the weight is the main difference. Strength wise I dont know.

I changed the Camber kit already at Riverview at AMK Autopoint. Cost me $150 include alignment and adjust toe angle to be more A-shape. Plus after that I hand itchy, change to Apex lowering spring, so have to do realignment and toe angle again and cost another $40.

The tyres are ex. Cost abt $150 each. Its Firenza mad in Japan, ST03. 205/40/ZR17

So far my FC still the same, quite good in fact considering I using wider wheels with more friction. I guess the rims are light and I am quite light foot anyway, plus using lightweight crankshaft pulley from summit.

Rear left one finger. When passenger sits in with luggage, its inside the arch.

But so far, it never scrape the arch. Along the way from SGP to Genting and back, 130-140km/h still ok, doesnt squats so much until it contacts. Thanks to the harder Apex spring.
