Cool Neutral Newbie April 29, 2002 Share April 29, 2002 Hi Guys.. Starting a new topic.. I am using the examples of CPU Heat Sink and FAN. I notice that the radiator (FAN) that generates water into the engine is hot.. What if the water isn't that hot.. ? what is the impact ? I know that cold air intake is good. How about the above ?? ↡ Advertisement
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie April 29, 2002 Share April 29, 2002 Hi! there, Cool, Improvement to reduce the temperature is good. Bear in mind that there's an operating temperature for all the components in the car. Running cooler temperatures will definitely make all the parts last longer. Going into extreme cooling will be bad, so to prevent that, install temp. gauges to monitor it. Exhaust temp. must be high to prevent unburnt gases from damaging our health, that's why the cat. converter was install, so don't park your car over long grass areas. Guyver 1st Gear April 29, 2002 Share April 29, 2002 So what's the ideal temperature? i know unburnt gases is bad for health... but why does it concern over parking over long grasses areas?
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie April 29, 2002 Share April 29, 2002 Hi! there, Guyver, The hottest component in the car is the cat. converter, there were many incidents of fire that's caused by grass burning by the cat. For me, no meow to worry about. Rgds Paul Yong

Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 29, 2002 Share April 29, 2002 The stock thermostat for the cooling system usually specs the ideal operating temp of the engine. So for example my brick's thermostat is 89C before it opens.
Guyver 1st Gear April 29, 2002 Share April 29, 2002 So how do we enhance it?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 30, 2002 Share April 30, 2002 I believe it's more effective feeding cooler air into the engine rather than trying to cool the engine block itself. The maximum efficiency to be realised is to feed cool air (aka denser with oxygen) into the combustion chamber rather than letting the engine operate at lower than stock temperature unless there's addition mods like forced induction or NOS

Madarmour Neutral Newbie May 1, 2002 Share May 1, 2002 Another way to cool the engine is to fix in an oil-cooler. Some cars have as standard but most cars do not. An oil cooler looks like a small radiator which feed oil from the sump. Works in the same principle as the radiator. Of course the engine oil volume will increase - 800ml to 1L. IMHO, it's only useful if you always drive hard.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie May 1, 2002 Share May 1, 2002 (edited) Mike's right, one of the best investment is oil coolers. Auto car owners, don't forget the ATF can have one too! Edited May 1, 2002 by Turbobrick
Wymun Neutral Newbie May 1, 2002 Share May 1, 2002 Any idea what are good models for oil and tranny cooler? In addition, any place to recommend that sells and installs them?? Thks!
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie May 1, 2002 Share May 1, 2002 (edited) Probably can get them at Tuner shops like Mcwell, CS Autolabs, etc. or just shop around scrap yards for coolers from big engine cars or Rex/Evos. Installation can be done at most garages. I did get one from summitracing.com for my auto tranny but didn't have space to install so had to sell it off Edited May 1, 2002 by Turbobrick
Roadblock Neutral Newbie May 1, 2002 Share May 1, 2002 How much does it typically cost to install one of these oil coolers? Looks like a damn cool idea!
Guyver 1st Gear May 1, 2002 Share May 1, 2002 Ok, how much does it cost... roughtly? where? at the meet up yesterday.... i was being advised by Paul to add 2 small fan right in front of my radiator since there's quite a big space there.... so which will be better?
