Sofarsogood Clutched July 13, 2006 Share July 13, 2006 Changed my brake pads (front) last week. Still can hear screeching sound when starting to brake. My mechanic said it is normal. But its been almost a week now. Is this really normal? I visually inspected my brake discs, no "damage" leh. ↡ Advertisement
Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 13, 2006 Share July 13, 2006 Could be the pad material. could be that there are no shims at the back of the pad.
Sofarsogood Clutched July 13, 2006 Author Share July 13, 2006 Sorry, what are "shims"? Does this warrant a trip back to my mechanic?
Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 13, 2006 Share July 13, 2006 they're just a backing plate at the back to reduce noise causing vibrations. Btw, what pads are u running?
Sofarsogood Clutched July 13, 2006 Author Share July 13, 2006 Me just use the manufacturers' stock pads from Nissan.
Fcw75 Hypersonic July 13, 2006 Share July 13, 2006 OEM or original ones?
Mzrmazda3 6th Gear July 13, 2006 Share July 13, 2006 Bro, it's not normal High chance is that the brake pads aren't original
Elfenstar 3rd Gear July 13, 2006 Share July 13, 2006 Well could still be the compound. Go ask ur mech if he used the shims. if he did then its confirmed the compound. Once bedded in, try some hard braking. Should temporarily reduce or even eliminate the noise.
Fcw75 Hypersonic July 13, 2006 Share July 13, 2006 (edited) I agree. OEM and Original Nissan pads are different. For my Honda, I used OEM and original Honda pads before, both made by Nissin. But somehow, there's a difference when braking to a stop. The OEM pads made a groaning noise when releasing the brake and when the car is coming to a stop but the original Honda pads doesn't. I feel the surface of both pads and they feel different. Edited July 13, 2006 by Fcw75 ↡ Advertisement
